So, after pouring water into two big white bowls today, I came to the realization that my water is yellow-tinged. I poured tap water into one bowl and Brita-filtered (with a fairly recent filter) into the other, and both are equally yellowy. Should I be worried? For all I know, my water has always been yellowy and I just never noticed until now because I haven't had occasion to pour it into a white bowl.
1. Did you use water straight out of the tap, or run it a bit.

2. If not, try samples both ways.

3. If the first draw if more colored than the flushed on, it's probably some dissolved metals, and probably iron.

4. If it is iron, it is not a health issue, but an "aesthetic" issue, as water people put it.

5. This is all assuming that you have city water.

Ah, it is getting less yellowy as it runs! Thanks!

Hmm. I think the answer is that you should get rid of your white bowls.

No need to get rid of 'em--sooner or later, they're bound to turn yellow.

"If it is iron, it is not a health issue" Actually it can be. Hemochromatosis

aresy, that article says hemochromatosis is caused by either genetic abnormalities or disease, not simply ingestion of too much iron...

amro, our pipes do the same thing, it's just old plumbing. I let the water run until it's cold and then it's clear.

It's genetic but if you have it you want to avoid iron when you can. The more iron you take in the more often you have to be bled.

So if I regularly cook with a cast iron skillet, I should be bled regularly? Interesting.

Only if you have Hemochromatosis or hang out with vampires.

If my friend Tony claims to be allergic to onions, can I assume he means garlic too and is actually a vampire? Because he does. Claim to be allergic to onions.

Let's bleed Tony!

Maybe he's only part vampire. Hasn't made up his mind yet? Sort of like exploring but hasn't had the final transfer yet.

Most women don't get enough iron, so please drink your yellow water to your heart's content.
I am not vamp-curious.
