Points! Hey, let's play Points! I've appointed myself today's whatchamacallit.[More:]

Today, you can get points for:

1. Drinking coffee - four points
2. Wearing something black - two points
3. Riding a bicycle - six points
4. Petting a dog - five points
5. Using Microsoft Office - three points

Tiebreaker: how many telephones are in your home?

Let's stick with youngergirl's very sensible rule that you can get points for future events, but not events planned just for Points!
crap 0

I think my grand total from all of these so far is 2 lol

Five points: black and Office.

I always pet available dogs when I see them, but I cannot guarantee dog availability at this time. So it may go up to ten, but most likely not.

5- black shirt and using outlook now

Coffee, black and Office. I don't know how to ride a bicycle.
posted by Senyar 01 July | 10:06
Oooh, 11. Coffee, black and dog. I don't own a bike and I doubt I'll be firing up Office today (thank god.)
posted by mygothlaundry 01 July | 10:09
2! Damn. Thank goodness I wore black sneakers today or it'd be zip.
posted by BoringPostcards 01 July | 10:12
Wait, is Outlook part of MS Office? If so, that ups my score to 5.
posted by BoringPostcards 01 July | 10:13
Office is it, unless we're counting the base of my flipflops as "something black." Or...

...does the black thing have to be visible?
posted by Madamina 01 July | 10:20
MS Office is Outlook, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint and Access. I think that's all of 'em.

No, visible is not a requirement.

14!

I took the cat to the vet's this morning, and there was an adorable King Charles spaniel there, called Charlie Brown. I petted (pet?) him.

I am wearing regulation black jeans and shoes, always have a coffee in the morning, and use MS Office all the time (today, Word and Excel). I don't often ride a bike though.
posted by altolinguistic 01 July | 10:24
Only 5 points. I never drink coffee, I almost always wear black pants to work, I'm scared to ride a bicycle in this town, I wish I could pet a dog, and I toned up my resume in MS Word.

Telephones: currently plugged in, 3; in a box in the basement, 4; cellphones, 5 (not all of which work).
posted by altolinguistic 01 July | 10:31
Nine! And two telephones in my boyfriend's apartment: the house phone and his business phone.

Whether or not I pet a dog today depends on if there will be someone bringing their dog back from its walk when I get home. If the dog looks friendly, I'll offer up my own paw to sniff first before petting. I have met the most awesome dogs in my boyfriend's building that way.
posted by TrishaLynn 01 July | 10:36
Pretty sure I'm going to be at 0 or possibly 3 today (depending on if I decide to pop into Excel to work on my budget or not).
posted by sperose 01 July | 10:39
Heh. I'm working at the clinic today, so I've gotten to love on several dogs (as well as bathe a sweet, goofy 110-lb Black Lab).

And I've got black socks on. So 7.
posted by ufez 01 July | 11:06
Four point for the coffee, nothing else. I don't have access to MS-Office at work, does OpenOffice count?
posted by octothorpe 01 July | 11:57
14, yay. everything except the bicyle. Pretty much every day of my life includes coffee, petting a dog, and wearing black.
posted by wens 01 July | 12:06
and phones : currently plugged in - 2 landline, one cell (turned off). a few other unplugged phones around in case the electricity goes out and I need a non-cordless phone.
posted by wens 01 July | 12:08
Bike, dog, office, 14. Phones, 5 in use plus 8 old cell phones. So 19 if you don't count the unused phones 27 if you do.
posted by arse_hat 01 July | 12:16
Black t-shirt, but I can't predict if I will drink any coffee. I probably will, but it's not a given.
posted by Ardiril 01 July | 12:24
A dog presented itself outside the cafe at which I realized I had extra time to grab a bagel and coffee. 14!

I have 2 phones in the house.
posted by occhiblu 01 July | 12:32
14, everything except the bike.

Do the phones have to be in use? If so, three - two cells and a gd landline that The Husband insists on keeping. If not, we have at least eleven more old school phones that work if plugged in - for theatrical purposes.
posted by rainbaby 01 July | 12:35
There is a giant plastic raspberry in an old-fashioned theater seat at this cafe. Do I get extra points for that? :-)
posted by occhiblu 01 July | 12:35
14 points!

coffee, black, dog petting and MS office.

There are two phones in my house.
posted by gaspode 01 July | 12:41
8 points: drank coffee today and MS office (word)
posted by peacheater 01 July | 12:43
5 points.

I can't drink coffee (frown), I wear something black almost every day (it's a prerequisite for a designer), I don't own a bike (yet), I saw a dog this morning but he was working (I wanted to pet him so bad), and I've sent a few work emails this morning.
posted by Specklet 01 July | 13:00
I can't figure out why I love this game so much. Okay --

Drinking coffee - four points. Check. Do this daily.
Wearing something black - two points. Check. My default color.
Riding a bicycle - six points. Won't happen today. I am bicycle shopping tomorrow but too far off.
Petting a dog - five points. Check. Though he still stared at me reproachfully as I left him in his dog run.
Using Microsoft Office - three points. Check.

And we have our two cell phones and FIVE more phones in our house.

Total: 21!
posted by bearwife 01 July | 13:08
Correction: on reflection, there are SIX working landline phones in our house, plus our two cell phones. So that makes it 22 points! (I am not counting my Ipad, which also will work as a phone.)

Beats me why we have so many phones. We both hate phones.
posted by bearwife 01 July | 13:35
7, two for wearing black (just my belt, because I don't own a pink one to go with my pink sneakers) and 5 for petting a dog (who is curled up under my desk right now.) As usual, crap results in competition but I've got a dog at my feet so I don't care.
posted by workerant 01 July | 14:05
The 14-pointers are in a many-way tie for first place.

I'll probably call it quits in three hours or so, sometime during the 6pm hour (EST)

Quick, somebody, go for a bike ride. Or help me decide whether to count phones that aren't in use.
posted by box 01 July | 14:23
Today's a zero points day for me. Going back to sleep.
posted by oneswellfoop 01 July | 14:28
I loved hearing how people have (so many!) not-in-use phones in their house, so I think they should be counted, even though that makes me lose.
posted by occhiblu 01 July | 14:42
I am allergic to everything in this game except the color black.
posted by Eideteker 01 July | 16:02
1. Drinking coffee - four points - nope, don't drink coffee
2. Wearing something black - two points - yep, shorts are black, shirt has black stripes
3. Riding a bicycle - six points - nope, although I own one
4. Petting a dog - five points - yep, many times
5. Using Microsoft Office - three points - nope, I use Windows Live Mail

Total: Seven points

Tiebreaker: how many telephones are in your home? plugged in, four; cell phone, one

Total: Five phones
posted by deborah 01 July | 16:19
The 14-pointers are: altolinguistic (12 phones); wens (6 (est.)); arse_hat (13); occhiblu (2); rainbaby (14 (est.)); gaspode (2); bearwife (8).

I'll keep it open a little bit longer, but unless we see a coffee-drinking, black-clad, dog-petting, MS-Office-using bicyclist in the very near future (I'm looking at you, Doohickie and lonefrontranger), rainbaby (and her theatrical telephone collection) is the current leader.

+4 (iced coffee with milk)
+2 (my new sandals, which I do not like, but which satisfy the new no-flip-flops policy at work; grar)
+0
+0 (mine is a dogless existence)
+3 (work)
= 9 + 3 cells
= 12

6: coffee and black clothes. I had planned to ride my bike this afternoon, but Guy offered to buy me lunch, so that didn't happen.

We have three phones hooked up and one as a bookend and three in storage.
posted by crush-onastick 01 July | 17:12
I'm perplexed as to why people have so many phones! And I didn't think most folks really had landlines anymore... Guess that's just me and my circle of friends.
posted by Specklet 01 July | 17:31
And time's up! In a down-to-the-wire photo finish, rainbaby's fourteenth phone beat out arsey's thirteen and alto's twelve to break a seven-way tie for first place.

Congratulations, rainbaby, today's Points champ!

posted by box 01 July | 17:32
Ah, so close! :) It's a very rare day for me that involves petting a dog, so this game happened at just the right moment.
posted by altolinguistic 01 July | 17:32
ZOMG! I don't think I'll have time to photo document the phones before tomorrow, but I will try, and I will post a points list before eleven am EST.
posted by rainbaby 01 July | 19:28
Yay, rainbaby!
posted by BoringPostcards 01 July | 20:13
yay! Thanks for keeping Points goin' strong. It is fun. I would have failed today as I spent all my waking hours on buses and trains, with a distinct lack of dogs and microsoft office. Plus, I went with the brown ensemble.
