Micro shuffle-a-go-go! With AN EXCITING TWIST! [More:]Or, you know, not all that exciting. Here's the dealio -- fire up your Musical Software of Choice What Holds All Your Music. Sort by Number of Times Played.

NOW SHARE YOUR FAVORITE SONG THAT HAS BEEN PLAYED EXACTLY THIRTEEN (13) TIMES!!!

If none of your songs have been played exactly thirteen times, then write a 100-word essay on toenails. Or pick another song to share.

Why? I don't fuckin' know. Why not?

My song:

"Total Fucking Gone Song" by Dillinger Four from the album "Versus God"
ooooh, interesting. My guess, before I even look on our shared computer is that it will be the Beatles. Because that's what we tend to play in the mornings, for the kidling (she's a fangirl).

*checks*

Yep. Nowhere Man.

I don't allow my music software that much access to the files.

Gosh -- they're all pretty good!

Might be "Summertime Clothes" by Animal Collective. I need something driving and catchy like that today.

Awesome. Tied at 13 plays each (along w/ others, of course):

Joy Division, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and New Order, "Blue Monday."

My hard drive took a permanent vacation last week (less than 24 hours after I backed up the 35,000+ songs loaded!!!), so I currently don't have the option to sort by plays. But Last.fm comes to the rescue!

According to Last.fm, here are my first 13 songs played 13 times (one for each artist)

Echo & the Bunnymen – The Cutter
Spoon – Lines in the Suit
Modern Lovers – Roadrunner
Didjits – Headless
Guadalcanal Diary – Get Over It
Lords of the New Church – Russian Roulette
Buzzcocks – Sitting Round at Home
Sweet – Action
Stiff Little Fingers – Gotta Gettaway
Naked Raygun – Wonder Beer
Cheap Trick – Oh Caroline
Franz Ferdinand – Darts Of Pleasure
The Kinks – Tired Of Waiting For You

Ooops - I see we were supposed to pick a fave. At this moment I'll go with Echo & the Bunnymen's "the Cutter" from that list since I just saw them do a ripping great version of it last week.

Closest one I have is "Wouldn't it be nice" by the Beach Boys. I heart that song!
posted by Stewriffic 24 May | 14:40
I don't have any music software that does that.
posted by octothorpe 24 May | 14:47
Mine doesn't either.

So instead I loaded this remix of Miss Fatty up and listened to it 13 times.

Hm. Lastfm only sorts down to 24 plays each. Of those 22 tracks, I'd say my favorite was Garbage "Supervixen" or David Bowie "Heroes".

Amy Rigby - Always With Me
Black Prairie - Across the Black Prairie

I could not choose a favorite, out of these.

Question:
This is, of course, dependent upon which machine you're currently using and how recently you wiped it, but how many times have people played their most-listened songs?

I'm at 39, 35 and 32 for my top three. The top two are on my "Okay, buckle down and WORK!" mix.
posted by Madamina 24 May | 16:01
I can't do this--on just my playlist of 5-star songs, I have over 70 that have been played 13 times.
posted by leesh 24 May | 16:13
Hmmm, a somewhat embarrassing list:

A-Ha - Take On Me
AC/DC - House of the Rising Sun
Adrian Gurvitz - Classic
Aerosmith - Walk This Way
Aerosmith - Draw the Line
Aerosmith - Come Together

If I had to pick a favourite, it would be 'Walk This Way', I guess. Which is fine by me.

I suspect this is because of my tendency to play all the stuff on shuffle while I'm working, so it tends to start from A? iTunes was re-installed recently so the counts have been re-set. The most-played on that list is AC/DC - Back in Black, but it's only 18 times. I most often play music from my iPhone, but it doesn't provide counts - my guess would be that Shine on You Crazy Diamond would be the most-played.

I lose my playcounts 2ce a year, as if they're on schedule, so my list reflects really really really recent plays.

Mine is Matraca Berg, Oh Cumberland.

By lastFM, here's all the tracks played 13 times:

Son Volt – Medicine Hat
Wilco – I Am Trying to Break Your Heart
Uncle Tupelo – No Depression
Grateful Dead – Loser
Gillian Welch – Wayside/Back In Time
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers – A Night in Tunisia
Wilco – Hummingbird
Over the Rhine – Hush Now (Stella's Tarantella)
Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling Into Place
The Black Keys – The Wicked Messenger
Death – Keep on Knockin
Grateful Dead – Terrapin Station Medley
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Dragon Queen

Pretty much what I'd expected.

I just cleared the memory of my player so everything has been reset to zero

Can't decide a favourite between:

Ohio - Beats Never Rust
The Israelites - Desmond Dekker

(have discarded: Psycho Killer and This Charming Man)

...all from the laptop which is rarely a source...

So instead I loaded this remix of Miss Fatty up and listened to it 13 times.

Thanks for that, it's a fantastic tune. I was surprised to hear the original (video featuring durrty dancin, possibly NSFW) has some of those Reece-like basslines - very electronic-ey for dancehall. Or I may be missing out on modern dancehall tunes.

And I can't tell play counts on my iPod (or I don't know where to see that without iTunes). Instead, I offer Deadboy's remix of Fireworks by Drake (found on Ca$h Antic$ Vol. 2). I've listened to it more than 13 times, but it'll do for now.
