Kindle? If anyone's been thinking about buying a Kindle, woot.com has a refurbished one for 90 bucks, today only.
Who knew I'd have to pay tax on it? (I sound like a tea partier!)

I just dragged myself kicking and screaming into the 21st century and ordered a Kindle (from Amazon UK).

How fortuitous, I was thinking about this recently. My mother-in-law has one that she uses all the time, and now that I commute by bus, I've been thinking about reading old classics (the Tom Swift series has me intrigued).

Just after I purchased one via Woot, I checked Craigslist: one listed last Friday for $50, but no age noted, and it could be shady.

This is the exact Kindle I have and I recommend it highly!

Is there a non-proprietary ebook reader out yet?

After lugging around boxes of books from the storage units I emptied, I am very seriously interested in any paperless solution...

Kindle is shaped like a water bottle?

Woot only has the deal for one day, so yesterday it was a kindle, today it's water bottles.

Yeah, I was just being an ass. I have yet to get a Bag of Carrots. I so want one.

My Kindle arrived yesterday, and I've already downloaded 10 free ebooks from Amazon, including Tom Swift! I first checked Archive.org and was thrilled to find Tom Swift in mobi format, but the formatting is atrocious, with all sorts of weird artifacts from the automated OCR process (including "Google" added in from the bottom of watermarked pages). Then I saw the books were free on Amazon, and they look good!
