It's raining and my Mom is dropping by unexpectedly, halp? Manhattan, she,s done the tourist things, and we'd like to be inside. More jeans and a t shirt then heels and pearls. Ideas?

When I'm at a loss I tend to take people to shops like Philip Williams Posters, because the stuff there is amazing and it's right near a lot of other interesting stuff. You would be outside, though, as you traipse from gallery to gallery.

Lady Mendl's Tea Salon at the Inn at Irving Place is a place I would have loved to take my mom. Then again, that's pushing towards pearls, isn't it?

The Strand? The next time I'm in NYC I'm stopping there and would even if jonmc didn't work there. I wish I had known about it during my first visit.
