Time for SHOWTUNES! omg, live-accompaniment showtunes karaoke; what do I DOOOOOO?
→[More:] We're going to a piano bar for basically an open mic night as a fundraiser for this local theater group. Which means there will be ACTUAL THEATER PEOPLE there.
We can do as many songs as we want, but hello I want to be good. But I'm trained operatically/chorally, not as a Broadway belter. We're supposed to bring our own sheet music, but then again we should probably know the song well enough.
I have until June 6, and access to a massive library.
Songs I love:
"Shy" from Once Upon a Mattress
"Simple Joys of Maidenhood" from Camelot (the main song starts at 1:50)
"On the Street Where You Live" from My Fair Lady -- the group is doing My Fair Lady this summer, but if I go cross-gender maybe it'll be kosher :)
"Don't Rain On My Parade" from Funny Girl -- I may need a little more breath for this one.
"Summer In Ohio" from The Last Five Years -- the others will probably know the musical backwards and forwards, but I have it on a MIX CD, OKAY?
I also have a male friend who will hopefully come, so maybe we can arrange for a duet...
Any other suggestions? I love a challenge and can sing pretty much any range.
