I'm sorry, but this really annoys/angers me, and I need to vent. [More:]

Fucking Schwarzenegger. I don't care about celebrities and their affairs or their out-of-wedlock children, and I don't even care about politics anymore. But this thing about Schwarzenegger really pisses me off. If it had been out in the open during his campaign(s), I don't think he would have been elected. And if he hadn't been elected, maybe things would be a bit better in California than this dismal mess we've got now.

You selfish, dishonest bastard, by being such a megalomaniacal, self-serving jerk, you screwed ALL of us, not just the hired help.

Thank you. That feels better.
Huh, I hadn't even thought about that.

Indeed.

It is monstrous. But how did Maria Shriver NOT know about this, all this time? Their finances must be very separated.

And here I was actually intrigued about more Terminator. Fat chance, now.

I think it's hilarious. Also, after 9/11, I don't think whoever was governor would have made much difference. California imploded and then lost a lot of talent during the initial years of shock.

... and the kid will do fine. She or he is well ensconced among other kids dealing with rich celebrity parent issues.

How sad are the Democrats (of which I count myself) that no one ever dug this up before now?
posted by JoanArkham 17 May | 16:18
It's pretty amazing it happened 10 years ago and it's not been dug up before. From what I've read Schwarzenegger is well known for fucking around, but I guess it's having proof that was the nail in the coffin.

It's sad that his wife defended him from these accusations during elections. I suppose she was sincere, if easily convinced. Wealthy powerful men get used to assuming they can have whatever they want. Jerk.

What I really feel is a lot of sadness at what appears to be the end of a very loving marriage, and empathy for Maria Shriver and the Schwarzenegger/Shriver children.

If my husband fathered a child by another woman, I would not consider our marriage "loving". I would call it a sham. And I'd kick his cheating butt out to the curb with the trash.

"After running California, Arnold's legacy is now a love child, lies"

(this kind of analysis is what makes me feel McClatchy is the last honest newspaper publisher, and the little local Trib is one of their papers)

Personally, I could care less where Arnold sticks his li'l terminator, but yeah, as a politician he sucked the life out of California.

I used to live in LA in the late 90s and knew a woman who worked for a company he did business with regularly. She said he was very agressive in hitting on her every time he came in, to the point where she would hide in the backroom to avoid him. She said he had this creepy "mind control psyche-out hypnosis" vibe going, like sleeping with him was a foregone conclusion... *yeech*.

Yeah, my coworker's sister served on a board of directors with him and had the same experience. She hated him.

I really don't see how any of this child's story is my business at all.

I think it was very, very clear long before the election that Schwarzenegger was a horny lech who slept around with every women that would have him. Plo chops, anyone? What would royally piss me off if I were a Californian, and pisses me off anyway, is that so many voters make such stupid choices. Schwarzenegger's infidelities should be totally irrelevant to his election or non-election (sexual harassment is another story), and voters should not be voting for someone who had zero political experience purely because he's a household name.

Honestly, it's getting to the point where I almost feel people should have to pass a citizenship test before they can vote. We make immigrants do it, but for the rest of the population the accident of being born in a jurisdiction is considered sufficient entitlement. And when you think about it, that's total bullshit.

I think a lot of celebrity/politician wives should take a page out of Sandra Bullock's book. What took Maria so long?

What really bothers me about this story is that (afaik, I really haven't poured over every detail of this news), he fathered a child outside of his marriage, and the mother told her husband it was his.

Now that Schwarzenegger is telling the press to please let his family have their privacy, all I'm thinking is there's a father child bond YOU totally fucked up out there, a child old enough to read the paper. Not that the mother is without blame, but shit, that's cold. It's not just his family that need their time and privacy here.

Heh, we force them to vote here. I'm not sure if that is worse or better. On one hand, the election is probably a better reflection of the will of the people. On the other, the vast majority of voters are woefully ill-informed and vote for people for all sorts of wrong reasons, with the result that Arnie would win an election here in a landslide :-(
