Help the Ignorant! Wireless questions.[More:]Hi. So, we are wanting to switch bedrooms and that has caused a problem. The guest room/office is the place where the internet cable comes in. But we want to make this our main bedroom, which means the office has to go elsewhere. I could pay $90 to have Comcast come and move the cable, OR, so I think, we could get a wireless router and go wireless. Am I right about this? WE have my desktop plus one laptop both running Windows - mine is XP, his is Vista. How hard would this be to pull off? And how expensive? Assuming I'm patient and can follow directions, can I pull this off?
If your desktop doesn't have a wireless card you'll need a USB wireless adapter (looks like one of those dongles). I did this with my PC and now have the router in the living room connecting wirelessly to my netbook (with built-in wireless card) and the XP PC via an adaptor.

Oh, and I use this wireless router. It's excellent.

Does the laptop already have wireless (probably if its fairly recent)? Does the desktop? You may need a wireless card for the desktop. I got one for a desktop a couple years ago for $35.
On a recent trip home I temporarily added a wireless router to my Mom's setup. It was $35 and worth it for the time I spent there.

OK, thanks all y'all - it seems like this is not that hard. I also found this for dummies-type explanation and am about to head out to my friendly local computer hardware place.
