Douchebag of the year award. "Real Families" is actually a pretty good blog.
He doesn't really spell out if his wife every found out, though I guess if the son met the baby, she must have. What a gem.

Yeah, those ski enthusiasts, they're a tricky lot.

That guy sucks, but I'm more amazed at how the priest reacted! What kind of priest encourages lying and cheating?

His self-deluded judgementalism is epic. Yeah - the reason his girlfriend's friends thought he was bad news is because they were shallow Americans ruined by TV and magazines. 25 years, 2 families, and he's still managed to learn exactly nothing about himself. Bravo.

What kind of priest encourages lying and cheating?

Too easy.

Christ on a bike. I love the way he doesn't take responsibility for any part of the situation.

I grew up in the U.K., and though I moved to the States, I never much cared for American women. I found them too materialistic and emotionally needy, spiritually warped by commercial television.

*open-mouthed stare*

Man, what a stereotypically male response to such a fucked-up situation. "I had two glorious years. Lisa has broken dreams." It IS all about you, isn't it?

Ooh, I saw this movie! It starred Edmund O'Brien.

From the comments on the essay:

I won't even get into the bullshit brush you use to paint "American" women with useless, and in my experience, totally false stereotypes. I guess because you're from the UK, you are a pig-faced, snaggle-toothed, foppish pansy with a penchant for gardening and a deep nostalgia for a long-dead nationalistic superiority?

No, in fact, you are much, much worse.

Well said, Alix Dobkowski. Well said.

I know I shouldn't have but I LOL'd at that comment youngergirl44 pasted here from Alix.

All I know is that I'm going to start calling people foppish pansies.

So, we created our own reality, our own set of rules and understandings.

Well, there you go.

Aside from the LOLSHITHEAD, there is something serious that doesn't get talked about much. You know that quote about all progress depending on the "unreasonable" man? Well, this jackass was unreasonable, and adjusted his world to suit him. I sure wouldn't call that progress.

I got to the end of the article and thought: "You shithead, you didn't learn anything! Your view of love is a crock of shit, you shithead."

Since the blog is normally about the challenges that today's families face and how they overcome them, I went into this thinking ah, this guy was an asshole, but he's learned the errors of this ways.

I kept reading, and reading, and he kept on justifying, and justifying, and when I got to the part of how everything would have been fine if only my new partner and son didn't want so much goddamn emotional commitment from me, I thought, wow, so not like the other feel-good stories in this blog. Those poor women.

He doesn't really spell out if his wife every found out

At the end of the article it says he has "two estranged partners", so I think she probably did find out.

It's astonishing how he was able to twist reality to make himself the hero of this story.

OMG what a JERK! This makes me so mad.
I love how at the end he's all "oh and then she turned into a typical american" instead of "I didn't fulfill any of my promises to her or to my wife."
I am glad not to know him or jerks like him.
