10 April 2011

It is 80 and damp in Angola, Indiana and it seemed like it would never get warm again. Now I'm worried about a fuming summer.[More:] It's so warm I had to change out of loungeware and the skirt I am wearing is way too big. It's the first time I've taken this computer out on the porch. I envision painting outside with vodka smoothies once again, finally breaking down and buying a really hardy easel. Plans for the weather? What's it like where you are?
I'm going to be driving right through Angola this afternoon (going from Grand Rapids to Louisville). I had checked the weather for that part of the world last night, and I saw a high of 88 in Louisville. I thought that had to be an error. I see now it's correct.

Where's spring, dammit???? It was snowing like two weeks ago. I hate this jump from winter to summer, skipping all the nice pleasant weather we're supposed to get. It's one of the few advantages to living in Michigan, and it seems we're getting less of it every year.

I was looking forward to spring.
At least it's officially carrot cake season.

It's been absolutely gorgeous since midweek - about 70F, no breeze, just beautiful. I dug out the Weber today and, with a friend coming for lunch, cooked lamb marinated in Lebanese spices, chicken thigh fillets marinated in lemon, garlic, olive oil and herbs, with grilled vegetables and a Greek salad. We finished off with raspberry pavlova. Then we needed a walk, so we walked up past the pond and around the churchyard. It's not even 9pm and I'm ready for bed now.

It hit 88 degrees F here today, right about the time we were hauling our plants outside (which are mostly small trees- no joke) and trying to clean up the yard a bit. Yowza.

It's really not warm or springy here yet too much. So send it our way.

It was lovely here today: sunny and mild and warm enough to take off my jacket. Today I finally set up my mother's deck furniture, because today was the day we finally believed she might want to sit outside sometime soon. Today I saw dozens and dozens of crocuses is bloom, not just poking their tiny heads up.

Now it's turned into a rainy night... but I really can't complain. I'm curled up under a goosedown comforter, windows open, listening to the rain and eating amaretti that my sister brought when I invited her for dinner. It was a good day.

Yesterday was hot in Pgh, mid-80's after being in the 40's. A sticky summer day. But the evening was soft and lovely, and the trees are starting to bloom. Spring is gorgeous around here, especially in the hilly suburbs.
