The Polysics: "Catch On Everywhere" A catchy song and a cool video, to boot.
Did it really take "J-Pop" this long to discover New Wave? The "Polysics Mix" on YouTube includes a lot of Devo, Sparks (the keyboard player is doing a Ron Mael, and not just in that video), Gang of Four and Kraftwerk. Yep, here's "New Wave Jacket" with a video showing the band as targets in a kind of Breakout game... they've done a cover of "My Sharona", and it looks like they did the theme music for the BBC program "Japanorama"...

Can't avoid comparing them to The Pillows, which did some serious rocking for the soundtrack of the Anime classic "FLCL" (pre-teen angst, x-files-ish conspiracy, robots bursting out of heads and a crazy alien gal with a guitar): "Ride on Shooting Star" is their signature tune... and OMG! "FUNNY BUNNY"! (Good song in any language)

These guys are great! Thanks for the intro.

I can't believe this is the first J-pop group to get into New Wave but I'm kinda new to the scene so I don't really know.

I'm probably wrong about my 'new wave' analysis, since I never paid much attention to Japanese rock bands before The Pillows. Still, The Polysics have some obvious influences and they all seem to jump back 3 decades...
