The mister and I saw a bit of it when we were driving up to Kamloops one winter. It was just a tiny bit, but it was so awesome to see. I hope to see a "full show" one of these years.
So beautiful. I would also like to see this from closer to the Arctic circle. I've seen the aurora twice - once when some sort of atmospheric conditions made it visible in Connecticut, and the planetarium director in my town told everybody to stay up and see it. Faint sheets of green light - very cool. It was in August. Another time when hiking in Northern New England in my teens. But the faint shimmers we saw those times were absolutely nothing like the stunningly beautiful things in these photos.
Gorgeous. I've seen the Northern Lights several times, not as distinct as this, but always amazing. The last couple years, there's been a strong correlation between the aurora and cloud cover. (sad face)
Wow. I've seen it once, while I was living in a suburb north of Chicago. I had just picked my mom up from work and we were driving back to my apartment. We pulled over and just stared at the sky for a good half hour. It was awesome.
Maybe this belongs in the Friday night question thread - that is one of my favorite memories
