The older I get, the better i can understand this time period and cultural moment, and imagine myself in it - not that I praise it uncritically, but I used to snicker ironically at it as this sort of naive expression of a fairly callous day, and now I see it as a moment of the same kind of "Hey young hipster Americans, isn't our totally groundbreaking design style and our new approach to adulthood just awesome?" I mean, it's just so many zen grass-in-a-planter-and-straw-placemat interiors and faux-innocent bird decorations, transported to another day.

Plus that shit is just plain cool and would be so today, no less.
