Ooooh, banjo! Banjo music always makes me happy. Except Deliverance, but that's an outlying case.
The trivia team that recruited me a coupla weeks ago asked me to sit in again tonight, but I had to demur --- I broke a tooth and am pretty cranky and in pain. (Also, it makes my speech a little slushy, which is problematic for the huddled muttering phase.)
So I'm staying in, having a nice soft dinner (eggs with salsa and avocado, homemade flour tortillas which are AMAZING), and getting to bed early for my early emergency crown fitting tomorrow. And probably watching old "Mad Men" episodes, or maybe the last two episodes of "Life on Mars." And taking painkillers. Actually, that sounds like a pretty swell night, all things considered.
That was fun, it was in the Elk's Club which is on the other side of the commons from where we live (maybe a mile) and the place is unchanged from about 1971. The prices are old too, Yuengling drafts for $1.50 each. They have these things every Wednesday, I'm not sure how I lived in the neighborhood for four years without knowing about it.
The crowd was a complete split between 80 year olds who were all up front digging the music and 24 year old hipsters who showed up about two hours later and hung out around the bar. Everyone seemed to have a good time and someone won $350 in the 50-50 raffle before the second set.
Decompressing from a day at the hospital. The mister went into a-fib again (second time in three weeks) and we spent seven hours there while all the tests were run, run again, cardioversion done, more tests and yet more tests. He's fine now and at home, but by the gods, being there is exhausting. It's so hot and noisy and dry and too many people and airless and so much beeping and the soda machine was sold out of everything.
