Anyone up for a little MP3 Shuffle-a-gogo? You know the drill, MP3 player on shuffle, first 10 songs, no cheating.

Here's what I got with some real time comments.
1.
AMADOU & MARIAM - Nangaraba (Tjé Ni Mousso 2000) Husband and wife duo from Mali with some very funky rhythms and wickedly cool fluid guitar lines. Apparently they're pretty popular in world music circles, but I just stumbled upon them on rerun of Later... with Jools Holland.
2.
EFFIGIES - Coarse in Vein (Remains Nonviewable) Bad ass punk from Chicago's Effigies. This is from one of the great 80's punk albums, 1984's For Ever Grounded.
3.
MARY WELLS - Oh Little Boy What Did You Do to Me (Mary Wells Ultimate Collection) - I'm always a sucker for a good "shoo bop shoo bop" backing chorus.
4.
CLIVE LANGER and the BOXES - First Thing (Splash 1980) I think I bought this because I was a big Madness fan and Clive produced some of the best Madness albums. The record's not that great, but occasionally a little new wave with a hint of ska is perfect for shuffle.
5.
GANG of FOUR - You Don't Have to be Mad (Content 2011) The Gang of Four album is quite good, and since seeing them absolutely live earlier this month I've been listening to quite a bit Go4 lately.
6.
YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS - Eating Noddemix (Colossal Youth 1980) It's funny that this sounds so casual now, because when I got this in high school 25+ years ago it seemed like one of the weirdest things I owned. It took me many years to realize what a great little record it really is.
7.
the SORROWS - Can't Go Back (Teenage Heartbreak 1980) I'm a huge powerpop fan, and this album is one of my favorites. They fall somewhere between the nerves and the Knack. Which for me is a good thing.
8.
the RECORDS - Paint Her Face (Shades in Bed 1979) Speaking of power pop, this was the b-side to one of the all-time great power pop anthems, "Starry Eyes". I am an absolute nerd for this stuff.
9.
the PERNICE BROTHERS - F*cking and Flowers (Goodbye Killer 2010) All of the Pernice Brothers tend to blur together in my head over the year, but this stands out a bit more thanks to the bigger and slightly sloppy guitar.
10.
the HOODOO GURUS - Poison Pen (Mars Needs Guitars 1985) In college the Gurus were gods to me - the absolute perfect blend of garage rock and power pop, with a sense of humor. Seeing them on the Stoneage Romeos tour ranks as one of my alltime favorite concerts.
Wow - nothing I'm even remotely embarrassed about.
