Good riddance, annoying duck. [More:] Ordinarily, I'd feel 100% bad that someone would see what's going on in Japan as an opportunity to get a cheap laugh from faceless Twitter followers.

But in this case, I think the stupidity amounts to a net good.

Just my opinion. Apologies to fans of the duck or the person.
The jokes in question, by the way. Warning: really tasteless.

They make me want to cry as bad as the disaster photos do.

I realize I should explain now that by "net good," I meant we don't have to hear the duck anymore. But now I realize how insensitive that sounded. Sorry. I'll stop commenting now. It's all so overwhelming, I can't believe anyone would try to be using it to get ha-ha points.

I like the duck. I never liked Gottfried. I wouldn't be surprised if all this were staged.

Practically everything becomes funny if you wait long enough because the ability to eventually laugh about things that hurt us helps us cope. But in the immediate aftermath of a horrible tragedy where thousands of people lost their lives and lots more their homes and livelihoods, does this "comedian" seriously need to be told it isn't funny to joke about it? What a jackass. Glad they ditched him.

None of Gottfried's tacky tweets will ever become funny, because they never were when they were first told after the Johnstown Flood of 1889...

I unfollowed on Twitter a couple of borderline-comedians who came to Gottfried's defense (using the "OH NO, POLITICAL CORRECTNESS" lameness, the standard howl of those who try to offend instead of trying to be funny). One funny guy who I still follow, James Urbaniak of "The Venture Brothers" (one of the best examples of doing outrageous humor RIGHT), tweeted that he had auditioned for the duck gig originally... now if somebody like him gets to "Aflac" around, it'll be a solid net gain for humanity.

What a tool. After reading that link, I'm glad he lost his job.

Today I saw one of my former co-workers gushing on Facebook:

Cool thought: I am glad and rejoice with my Japanese brothers and sisters who are now in the presence of Jesus. I'm jealous, actually.

Still don't know if I should call him out on this or not, because that's fucked up right there.

Man, I liked that duck. Never made the connection to Gottfried, though, and now feel sorta stupid for that. I hope they find someone else to quack annoying. Why couldn't it have been those stupid Geico cavemen? They were funny exactly once.

In case it's not clear... Gottfried's jokes are really horrible and he very much deserved to lose the gig. Probably a spanking too.

Holy crap, gc.

Yeah, gaspode, I don't know what to say. I've just been shocked.

Also, I wanted to point out that in Japan, the duck is less annoying.

Yeah, I'm not going to say that the worst part of that mess is how old, obvious, and unfunny those "jokes" were, but it didn't help.

We were talking about people who were could hire to do voice talent for our phone system. I thought Gilbert Godfried, Fran Drescher, and Bobcat Goldthwait would be good choices.

Apparently, I was misinformed.

I think it's stupid that they fired him for this. He's been tasteless, crude, and insensitive his entire career. They knew that when they hired him. This is no worse than anything else he says.
