OSCAR TIME! Who's watching?[More:] I got a good live feed.
I miss Jon Stewart.

What? And miss tonight's weather porn? For shame. I'm "watching" various weather sites/radars and waiting patiently for our severe storm outbreak. February tornadoes, what a rare treat!

Or David Letterman.

Where other than oscar.com can I stream this? They're having technical difficulties and I can't register for the skeevy 5 bucks to watch it on their site!

Anyone else know who's livestreaming?

I've been trying most of them, this one is the best right now.

Nobody actually watches TV on a TV anymore?
posted by octothorpe 27 February | 20:54
Half hour in and this whole show is crazy town. I love it.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 27 February | 21:00
Aieee! the Ustream one is now playing badly dubbed Spanish sci-fi! AIEEEEEEEEEEEEe!

(I believe this is because of the doublewhammy that hit the spacetime continuum when Kirk Douglas rambled incoherently enough to force the f-bomb out of Best Supporting Actress nominee!)

So, BOP had fish tacos?

I have it on now. Ok I have it on and muted because the channel it is on is a Tulsa station and I want to see if they interrupt with weather news. But at any rate I have one Oscar-related question for the evening. Who is the actress hosting/co-hosting/whatever? Very pretty whoever she is.
posted by weretable and the undead chairs 27 February | 21:27
Anne Hathaway, weretable.

Hey! Stop stealing my newses! (okay, they're pretty worthless. I guess I can share)

I watched 15 minutes of the Grammys, so I think my award show quota is filled for a while.

I think everybody on this show is on drugs.

I guess that I haven't seen a picture of Trent Rezner in about fifteen years, he didn't anything like I expected.
posted by octothorpe 27 February | 22:02
Yeah, I had to check with my husband - "Trent is the one on the left, right?"

Also, OMGWTF Trent Reznor just won an Oscar!
posted by jeoc 27 February | 22:06
I liked Toy Story 3, but The Illusionist should have won best animated.

Not sure about the Bob Hope ghost/hologram. That thing is deep in the uncanny valley.

Didn't do every well with my picks, but hey ho.

Everyone should watch Winter's Bone. It is very very good. Plus, two main Deadwood alums.

Looks like Artw was right with this comment:

Nobody thought it could be done, but they did it - they constructed a movie out of pure Oscar bait.
posted by octothorpe 27 February | 23:41
And it was inspired by a fringe play!

Loved the movie, but I would rather scenes from the best pic nominees were sprinkled through the broadcast like it used to be.
posted by brujita 27 February | 23:50
I watch this stupid thing every year and then think to myself, "why did I just waste three hours watching this stupid thing?"
posted by octothorpe 27 February | 23:59
We always have finger food and wine and watch the Oscars. Every year. . not sure why, but it's a tradition.

I really, really want to, but I have the book earmarked for my post-semester vacation down to visit my sister in Florida and I keep thinking I need to read it before I watch the movie. It's been on my radar, taunting me, for quite a while now, though.

Anne Hathaway

Verily, she does.
posted by Eideteker 28 February | 01:31
I haven't seen a new movie in years. The newest movie I have seen was The Dark Knight. So watching would have just confused me.

Verily, my homies -

How is it even possible that the almighty combined power and weight of the entire motion picture industry can be thrown at one single broadcast and still have it be as turdtastic as last night?

Also, Sandra Bullock should be given any amount of perk, cash, Bolivian marching powder to be the forever host of this show. Such an underrated comedienne!

...Bolivian marching powder...

speaking of which, is it just me or was Scarlett Johansson profoundly high/stoned/tripping? Just me? well, okay then. I couldn't really tell if it was that, or else she REALLY has no skill at walking in heels. She looked like her copresenter basically had to carry her out there and hold her vertical for the duration.

some friends and I watched it with the sound off whilst playing Oh Hell, listening to a big ol' Lady GaGa / Justice / LCD Soundsystem mix, and baking Thin Mints from scratch.

highly recommended method for watching the Oscars, if you must watch them.

Had my usual Oscar awards show feelings . . . loved watching the fashion show, wondered why I haven't seen the documentaries, which look excellent, and really felt it was far, far too long. It helped to DVR it and zoom through the commercials, but per usual even extending the DVR time by a half hour meant we missed the Best Picture award. Though so tired of Oscar night by then we didn't care.

Also, I wish they'd bring back Jon Stewart, though I can't figure out why he likes MC'ing it so much. I think he's way, way too smart and not nearly adoring enough for the crowd in attendance, though.
