Neighbor's house being foreclosed? [More:]Right now, I'm watching a guy wandering around my neighbor's house taking tons of pictures. He disappeared behind the house and, after awhile, I saw the garage door open. The guy is taking pictures in the garage now.

This is in 10-degree weather and about 1 foot of snow around the house. Their drive hasn't been cleared for quite some time.

The mystery guy's van (a beat-up old light blue Ford Econoline with mis-matched rear doors) simply has "Property Inspections and Preservation" and a phone number in hardware store decal letters on the side.

I'm thinking my neighbors are either being foreclosed or simply bailed on the home. Opinions?
The mystery guy has now started a generator in his van and ran extension cord to the garage. Is cutting up some plywwod. Must not be any power over there.

Sounds like a foreclosure.

I'm not sure what Indian's public records law is, but there's a good chance you could find some information on your tax collector's or property appraiser/assessor's website.

Indiana. Bleh.

LOL. Exactly.

I'm not finding anything on the county assessor's website beyond basic plat information. Certainly no "this property is in foreclosure" flags. It sucks to see this, of course. It's a nice house.

If it were me, I'd wonder over and ask the guy what is going on. But then I'm nosey ....

What you want to look for are the real property and tax records. Here's what it looks like for Indiana: http://www.in.gov/dlgf/4929.htm

There you should be able to see if they're behind on their property taxes (which if they're getting foreclosed on, is probably likely).

Here's the court filing search: http://mycase.in.gov/default.aspx
If they're being foreclosed on, there will likely be some mention of it there. That system looks like a royal bitch to search though, so you might have problems locating a filing.

My father does this sort of stalkery shit for fun with our neighbors, so I'm more familiar with Maryland's search stuff. I've even gone to the office of land records to look up original deeds!
