Tips on switching a cat to wet food? Our cat has early signs of kidney issues, and so we're supposed to switch her to a low-protein food, which apparently means canned food. She hates canned food. Tricks or tips? Or any suggestions for dry food with less than 20% protein?
I know that I've seen dry food with less than 20%, but always buy 30+%, so I can't think of the brand(s) off hand. I'll check the next time I'm at the store. Maybe your vet can help (without just trying to sell you the special vet food)? I'd also like to note that I've never, ever met a cat that didn't like wet food. Ours would kill for it!

One of mine doesn't like it at all. I keep trying to feed it to him because it's supposed to be better for him, but whenever I do he just sniffs it once and gives me the "what are dis muck?" look. Even if I take away the dry food for a while. He won't even eat pieces of chicken or other people food that every other cat I know goes crazy for.

So I'll be watching this thread to see if anybody has any ideas I haven't tried yet.

youngergirl, the complicating factor is that the cat's allergic to corn. The vet wanted to put her on Science Diet, but it has a bunch of corn. He was rather unhelpful after that point.

This cat is the least-food-motivated cat I've ever met. She doesn't beg, and she usually turns her nose up at offered table scraps. I just filled her bowl up with canned tuna, on the premise that trying to at least convince her that mushy stuff in her bowl is edible; she hasn't eaten for almost 24 hours and she walked over, sniffed it, and walked away.

It's nice in that I don't have to worry about leaving food out on the counters, but it's annoying in situations like this.

Can you do the same as you'd do with switching kibble? Add a tiny, tiny bit of the wet food to the bowl with every successive meal?

My feral kitties eat anything and everything (as evidenced by the bits they leave for me), so I'm only of theoretical help here.
