So what type of footwear would you wear with a very plain, chocolate brown sweater dress? →[More:]I got a nice dress, but I didn't really consider that I have no shoes that go with it.
Oh, it's just a casual dress to wear around. The step above complete slob, which is my normal attire. I just realised that all of my non-sneaker footwear is brown or black and I must remedy that.
Gray or purple boots or low heels is what I wear with my dark brown dress. I also have a pair of cognac flats that look good.
I wouldn't go black because that dark color seems like it might be too close but not close enough to black and might look off.
That's funny - two weeks ago I bought almost the same dress, but this one with more of a turtleneck collar.
I wear it with fun tights and my tall black boots. VERY comfy.
The booties idea is good, too - I've been wanting to wear this with my ankle boots + slouchy socks over the tights, but I don't have any slouchy socks, and I think without them it looks a little weird.
I agree with everyone else - stick to dark reddish browns or purples, or maybe army green.
If you want something that you can also wear with jeans and/or leggings and other skirts, you could also go with a low-heeled knee length riding/military style boot. These have been all the rage recently and as we're going into spring buying season, you maybe able to find great deals on them. I have a black pair that I wear nearly everywhere in winter.
I'd stick with textured / matte finishes though, in any style you pick. Suede is good.
Mary Janes in any style are amazing. I have a favourite adorable pair of red maryjanes in a high platform / chunky sole style that I found in a thrift shop, of all places. They are neither teetery nor uncomfortable, they simply look smashing with many things. :)
Likely a complementary shade in tights and either little or tall brown or beige boots in a somewhat different shade/texture. Also I'd add a long gold chain necklace, but that's just me.
I feel like a lot of women on metachat have similar or complementary tastes.
I got some army green and some grey tights to go with. Still contemplating shoes. I must admit, purple was my first thought, but I'm throwing other ideas around (I like color too, misskaz!)
And yeah, a long necklace. Hadn't thought about jewelry yet, beyond my turquoise earrings.
Men are harder to dress because they have more limited options. If you don't like something but it's the only thing in the Man Canon that fits you, well though tits.
