Wednesday 3-Point Update 1. The latest Spring Awakening tour came to my burg last night. The list of cities includes mostly tank towns, other than a few days in LA (at the Pantages). There seemed to be a LOT of young sorta affluent types that seem to be following the show around the country. I could be wrong, but the audience was mostly in their 20's and I have never seen any of these people before. TPS, anyone you know in this cast?[More:]

2. I am actually looking at retirement at some point within the next 18 months, for reals, and it is penciling out to be a rather pleasant one, with more income than I have now. We really want to travel around the world while we are still healthy enough.

3. Helped wife start a blog. She has turned into a really good writer over the past few years, now that she's putting time and sweat into it. I am very proud of her - not the blog per se - but the quality of her writing.
Just looked over the cast list, nobody I recognize off the top of my head! I know that the show itself has a small but INCREDIBLY devoted fan base.

Heh, one of the girls in the cast has John 19:30 in her bio. I'm like, hmm, don't know that one off the top of my head, so I look it up- "When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." One of the stranger bio verses I've seen.

Could one of you adored mods MI this? Thanks.

1. Really happy about the State of the Union address last night. Really. President Obama lights me up and fills me with hope and pride in the U.S. He always seems to have that effect on me and the Bear.

2. Lots and lots to do at work but all interesting and engaging.

3. Really getting into my guitar practice. I still utterly suck but I find it more absorbing than video games, even really great video games.

It was really good. Other than the fact that it was playing at the Atlantic, which was 2 blocks away from where we were staying in NY, I went in not knowing much about it. It was hard to follow the lyrics at first but then it got easier, and it was a moving show, and a big one (3 semis and a huge cast) to mount, just for one performance. It must be incredibly fun, though, to be that young and making a living and playing for a devoted audience everywhere.

1. I'm having some work-related anxiety, probably worrying for nothing but a few of us are waiting for some news that will affect our futures. And all we can do is wait.

2. Snow is forecast for the south-east of England tomorrow. We're told it won't stick, but I don't believe the weatherman.

3. I'm at the dentist tomorrow morning for a check-up and the torture that is known as a scale-and-polish. Even at my age, I'm still scared of the dentist.

Cleanings are the worst, because one can ALWAYS do better with brushing and flossing, and hygienists are never complimentary about that. It's very shame-based.

1. My sleep cycle is completely out of whack, and I am feeling more than the usual weirdness from such.

2. I toughed my way through lowering my anti-depressant dosage hoping that the lack of motivation was temporary. After two weeks, I think I can say it was. Next step down, next week.

3. Sookie is biting my arm for attention.

1. I have had step-relatives in town since Sunday, with whom I don't have a ton in common. Entertaining them is a little.....boring?...exhausting? They fly out on Friday.

2. I am a very comfortable mattress, apparently, as my 8 week old daughter won't sleep anywhere but ON me.

3. I'm hoping my husband comes home early this afternoon, because I worry about him driving in the snow.

1. Got a new project at work! Basically going through these huge boxes that are much too heavy to lift and store and verifying the contents against container lists (and adding things that were overlooked) and putting the materials into archival boxes. And yes, it is just as dull as it sounds. It's more real estate crap from some company in Baltimore that did a lot of work in Baltimore/Montgomery/Howard/Prince Georges counties but more commerical stuff than residential, which is what Roland Park was alllllll about. Also, this company was around from the early 1970s to the early 1990s. RP was around from the late 1890s (IIRC) to around mid 1950s.

2. It snowed overnight (not too much, but just enough to be irritating) and I shoveled my space and gave it a good coat of deicer for when I get home (since work is closing early today because of the next storm that's supposed to come through right during the afternoon rushhour) and I realized that I almost kinda like shoveling my space. It's a definitive task that I can quickly see progress on. I had this epiphany the other day that my moods are drastically better when I can see that I'm making real progress on things. Seems fairly obvious, but I'm a bit slow (as my psych testing showed, lulz).

3. The only problem with this project is that it's getting in the way of the normal schoolwork that I do while at work. (Here, if you're in school, you get something like 2 hours a week to work on schoolwork while at work, but I usually take more because there's nothing to do.) Plus, I requested 18-20 archival boxes and the person in charge of them only sent 10. I just folded box 7 for use. But yay for progress and a new project and figuring out what makes my moods less shitty. (It doesn't make them all 'omg yay yay yay flowers and kittens and sunshine' but anything is a step up from 'fuck me, I have to actually get out of bed and put on clothes'.)

1. Feeling really frustrated at work today. A bunch of problems are popping up and everyone's decided that I should fix them. Talking to the tech guy to find out why their SRU disconnected is not my job, and I am only confusing everyone. Let's have the IT guys talk to the other IT guys, 'kay?

2. Went to bar trivia last night (and totally won) and a cute man gave me his number. So, date this weekend. It's kind of neat; I've never been on a date with someone I didn't already know.

3. I'm really enjoying not having to study for the GMAT anymore. Not that I really studied beforehand, but I felt like I should, every night, and it made it hard to enjoy my tooling around.

1. Super sore from the yoga and beginner's fitness classes I started. I feel like my me hurts. I keep telling myself that this kind of thing is normal and I just need to hobble around and get better and keep doing more, but damn, I don't want to and I'm not used to this. Staying motivated is going to be hard.

2. Downloaded calibre and am now happily fiddling with it and getting it to play nice with my kindle. I love gadgets.

3. Had my fifth migraine of the month this morning. That was a bucket of no fun, with painful sauce on top. If this increased rate of ow keeps up I'll have to go back to the doctor. Foo.

1. Have the day off and was going to run a bunch of errands, but really don't want to go outside in the snow. So, cleaning the apartment.

2. Saw the Decemberists play last night, as anyone who reads my Twitter or facebook would have noted. Really, really good.

3. Just made carrot soup for dinner. Om nom nom nom.

1. Overtime season has set in at work. Looking forward to the arrival of the subsequent money money money.

2. Overtime season at work means I have to shift my workouts many days to early early in the morning. This is very hard for me.

3. Very happy about joining this bottle recycling program, because now I don't have to wait outside in the cold to recycle bottles, usually behind someone with a truckload.

1. Found out this morning that I was supposed to get paid last week, not this week (I wasn't paying attention) and I didn't get paid. Wasted my morning trying to get that resolved, am waiting to hear back from HR/payroll. The rent is too damn due.

2. I interviewed for the F/T version of my job on Monday. It went well, I guess? I'm currently the front-runner, but I didn't get a great feeling from the meeting (not a bad one, just not a great one). I need to step up my job search.

3. I am sort of thinking about becoming an annoying bicyclist. No, not rule-breaking annoying, but cycles everywhere and talks about it all the time (because I know myself, and I hear myself talking about my motorcycling all the time already, though mostly because ppl ask me). Once the snow is melted, I want to start bicycling more places, though I may need to get a cheap bike of craigslist because everyone who's seen my bike says "Nice!" which makes me think "People will want to steal this." Something for $100* that I can bash around and won't mind if it's stolen. I'm in New York! I should act like it!

* Please note a monthly metrocard is now $104/month. So a cheap bike would pay for itself pretty quickly. If I can just shower wherever I'm going.

2. Taking another spinning lesson tomorrow, woo-hoo!

3. Re-read Chinua Achebe's "Arrow of God". I love re-reading books; this one is such an amazing capture of a specific time and place.

1. Doc appt tomorrow to discuss how the new happy meds are working.

2. In spite of feeling better at first, they're not doing the job. Also: headache almost every day.

3. Blew off visiting Mum this month because of lack of happy. She is not amused.

1. Sick all week with a sore throat

2. House is a complete and total wreck since the electricians have moved in. I don't know where anything is and there are just piles of crap stacked everywhere. They'll be done on Friday so we can spend the weekend putting things back together.

3. Upheaval at work this week, the VP came into town and fired my boss without any notice. Things are going to be unstable and stressful for a while.

oooo Senyar I'm sorry to hear this. Me too.

1) Our ENTIRE SITE at BigPharmaCo has been going through upheaval weirdness since last October. The worst part is that as the solitary legal gofer on the team, I am one of 2 folks (the other being Boss) stuck in the middle of the process and people come to me thinking I Know Things (sometimes I do, mostly not) and Can Tell Them (uh, no, dude it's confidential, sorry). Argh.

1a) Yes, Annoying Chemist Guy, THAT MEANS YOU. Seriously, get the fuck out of my office.

2) Dear octothorpe: remodeling is pure hell, but the rewards are so veryvery worth it, so chin up dear. We had the house torn apart for weeks and weeks with the wiring all agog and had to PEE IN OUR BACKYARD FOR A WEEK OMG owing to a bathroom renovation. But it was all finalised recently and it's so amazingly better at Chez lfr.

3) my life would be so much better if I didn't spend half my time at work bickering with the Finance trolls. Urgh.

Thanks for the pep talk, lfr. The thing is that we're now almost four years into our grand urban homesteading project and probably only half way through. The amusing thing is that we've met probably 1/2 a dozen people who have said, "Oh, you bought THAT house? We looked it but decided that it would be way too much work."
