Kindle Users: I do not have a Kindle, but my sister does. Is it possible for me to buy a specific book for her Kindle, as a surprise? Or am I stuck with the usual boring gift certificate?
Gift certificate. I researched this over the holidays and found out you can't give Kindle books as gifts.

They really should fix that. I understand that gift certificates are easier for them to deal with, but it seems like demand for giving a particular book is going to increase.

On a side note, I'll be finally getting a Kindle in the next few weeks and am quite jacked.

Wait, this says I can . . .

Well, that's cool. I bought my dad's Kindle earlier than Nov. 21, and at the time you couldn't give books themselves as gifts.

Excellent. This is going to save my butt because I forgot about my sister's birthday.

Yeah, you can do it and it's super easy! I bought my sister a book on Thanksgiving.

I didn't think I would like ebooks, but I received a Kindle for Christmas and I love it!

For me, the Kindle falls awkwardly in between the portability of a smartphone and the versatility of a tablet. And e-ink isn't quite yet where I'd like it to be in terms of contrast and speed. But the device is secondary. It's e-reading in general that is the revelation.

Mass-market paperbacks used to be good as something you could stick in your back pocket. Now I'm carrying an entire bookshelf in a smaller package that weighs about the same.

It's a world of wonders, I tell you.
