17 December 2010

Clean ALL the things, Holiday version! OK, I have guests coming and I need to whip this house into shape. Problem is, I don't really feel like doing it. [More:]

This is where you come in! If you choose to accept the challenge, please comment from time to time with advice, encouragement or any other kind of helpful words! For my part, I'll avoid using the internets more than once every 30 minutes to check this thread and update as to what I've done so far.

YAY BUNNIES! GO!
OHIO! Only Handle It Once.

Yay Stew! Vacuum and whatnot!
posted by leesh 17 December | 08:03
OK! So far I've started decluttering, taking apoch's advice to OHIO, and I will soon be able to vacuum the room with carpet. WHEE! Thanks, all!

Vacuumed the carpet room. At a loss as to what to tackle next, so I'll brainstorm here.
• Declutter kitchen (I may have to break this down into smaller tasks) and then
• either do floors or if i'm feeling very motivated,
• wash out the fridge shelves, etc.
• Go around with vacuum and try to get cobwebs (where do they all come from?? OK, I know. Spiders. I just don't want to think about that.)

Don't make the mistake I always make. It really DOESN'T help to get drunk. I keep thinking it WILL, but, sister, believe me...it does not.

Don't forget to put on rumpshaking music or listen to podcasts.

All this activity. I will take a nap for you.
posted by Ardiril 17 December | 09:34
Do the bathroom next because it is small and you can get it done quickly!

OK! Rumpshaking music has been on since I started, thanks to yet another friend who is awesome and sent a xmas CD to me.

Will not get drunk. Don't need a nap, cause I slept in till 7! (woo hoo! Was 4:45 yesterday, so take that as you will).

Bathroom is not on the acute list, because I cleaned that thoroughly last week.

Update:
• leesh is coming over for lunch, so I have a deadline. This is a Good Thing.
• I have decluttered half the kitchen and thoroughly cleaned the counters and sink.
• I have run the dishwasher. That will need to be unloaded, so remember that!
• I am considering the fridge. It need it badly. BADLY.

Go Stewie!!! Here's a decluttering tip that usually works for me when I'm in a hurry.

1) Get a box. Put stuff you need to keep and deal with soon in the box. This includes stuff like mail, projects in progress, something you want to use later in the day. OK good! Set box aside.

2) Next, put other stuff away - hang up coats, make a stack of books and magazines, pick up any cups or dishes and stack in the sink (sounds like you've already done that), put away any clothes lying around or in my case, toys.

3) Whatever clutter is left you can probably throw away.

You're doing a great job!!!! Make a game out of it ... set a timer for 7 minutes and see how much of a certain task you get done. When it goes off, switch to something else.

I like cleaning, especially on those rare occasions that I'm home alone. So, jealous.

Thanks Kangaroo! It was just time to get a little cheerleading, so your comment timing is perfect.

The fridge is mostly cleaned, and I'm just waiting for the drawers to dry a bit more before I put them back in. I skipped the door compartments for now. The cleaning of the fridge set my overall kitchen cleanliness back a tad, but I think as soon as I unload the dishes and put the drawers back it will be fine.

Now, on the the unloading of the dishes.

Doing laundry instead of dishes, and taking a short break. This is hardcore cleaning!
posted by Stewriffic 17 December | 11:15
The nap I took for you was quite refreshing. Now, up and at 'em.

Yay! Remind yourself how great it looks when it's clean! Do a victory lap when you finish a room, or even a task!

Woo! Go Stew!

You rock, Stew!

leesh will be here any minute. The kitchen is slightly messy again (but that happens!), and the laundry is on my bed, clean. However, there is evidence that the fridge is clean, and there are still vacuum lines. After lunch I will tackle the laundry and the kitchen floor. WHEE!

WHEE!

Starting to flag after a nice lunchie... I think an extended break is in store for me.

MOAR CAFFEINE!!! delivery vehicle at your discretion. MOAR THUMPY DANCE MUSIC!!

I know you can do this Stewie. Go set the kitchen timer for 5 minutes. Do something for like, 8 minutes. When the timer rings, set it again for 3 minutes. Slack for three minutes, then go again at the bell.

Rinse, repeat. This is how I get really boring disgusting busywork icky tasks like invoice receiving and file sorting done at work. I am currently doing this right now in fact.

GO!!

er, how'd that 5 slip in there. 8 minutes on, 3 off. For some reason increments of 11 minute "laps" work best for me, ymmv...

I can verify that Stew's fridge is spotless! And her house is very clean!

OK, I went and ran some errands, which were necessary, too. now my counter is covered again, this time with purchases. I think I'm going to knock off and pick back up again tomorrow. I'm going out tonight, so I don't want to get too tired. (I rarely go out, and it's a friend I haven't seen for many years. I'm feeling ICK about going, but I really want to see her!)

Thanks to everyone for the help!!
