So far, HuffPo is the only source for this story. I'd wait for confirmation before becoming despondent.

You'll concede, perhaps, that the story is not implausible. It would fit an extremely well-established pattern of behavior.

It always plays out the same. Evidence mounts that Obama is going to do some Republican-y thing. Say: escalate ground forces in Afghanistan. As people get upset, some say "We don't know anything yet. Let's wait to see what happens."

Obama then proceeds to do exactly what was feared. And those who wanted to wait-and-see - while not acknowledging that the others were proved right in assuming the worst about him - admit to some "disappointment". But they remain convinced that his intentions are good. He's not all-powerful, you know. And the Republicans are worse! Etc, etc...

Company Man Markous Koulitsas can always be relied on to provide an amusing illustration of Obama doublethink:

The plan would reduce projected Social Security benefits to most retirees in later decades — low-income people would get higher benefits — and slowly raise the retirement age for full benefits to 69 from 67...

There's no indication that Obama supports any of this, of course. But his advisors told him that voters cared about the deficit and that he needed to do something about it. So, he decided to grandstand on the deficit with this ridiculous commission.

Well, he now owns everything in this draft report, including the stuff hateful to the left and the stuff hateful to the right. And for the "middle" that isn't paying attention to politics much? They get to hear about how Obama wants to take away their mortgage deduction and raise the retirement age.

Is this fair? No. But it was predictable.

See? Although Obama single-handedly created the Catfood Commission by Executive Order - since Congress wouldn't touch this with a 10-foot pole - and hand-picked members for it who were well known to be advocates of cutting Social Security, there's no indication that Obama supports cutting Social Security.

None whatsoever! It's so unfair! We should just wait and see...

I've given up on HuffPo ever having useful information.
