In Our Time is back!!!→[More:]Just looked at my iTunes podcast feed and, lo-and-behold, In Our Time has returned from its summer hiatus. Woohoo!
word!! I saw this on my iphone sync screen and was like "yay, I need this In Our Time on Imaginary Numbers in my life!" It's a testament to the quality of the program that it rarely rarely ever matters what the program is about, I just gotta listen. (Although to be honest occasionally of this science-y stuff isn't done too well by them.. the host doesn't understand sometimes, and although the professor types on the program are adept at eliding unnecessary concepts he sometimes pins them to explain stuff that they really can't without diagrams and such)
I've been going through an off-and-on thing with podcasts; I kinda dropped out of the whole news media listening thing an year ago and then I think itunes randomly stopped getting some podcasts for me this summer and after that I broke my phone for a couple weeks, and some of these programs go on (long) summer vacations.. so currently I've been subscribing to things I used to listen to, adding new series and so forth.. stocking my iphone because, hey, what I'mma listen to in my exploits around town otherwise? Ambient surrounding and people sounds? Horror!
Anyway so I've been listening to IOT since like 2004 and it gets top marks from me. I didn't really listen to the radio before getting up on podcasts and it's remarkable to me how long radio programs last, my life changes hugely over years and these cats are still around with their regularly scheduled programming (though sometimes not :( RIP Air America). Sometimes I wonder if I actually retained all the stuff I've learned from IOT I'd know a hell of a lot more!
