Gmail first, with or even (gasp!) before my coffee. After that, the order changes, but according to the last week of browsing history, the top morning sites are:

MeFi
AskMe
MetaChat
BBC news
weather.com
[local news/weather]
[my own damn blog]
FaceBook (though that's also The Fella checking his personal and writing accounts)
local library (that's surprising --- I didn't know I checked it every morning, but I do)

google (homepage)
DOE email (Department of Education/work email)
gmail (two different accounts)
metachat
KDS (Knowledge Delivery Systems, for online courses in education I have to take to maintain my certification -- they're not bad, really, but tedious)

Not everyday, but often enough to be on my favorites bar:

Netflix
Craigslist NYC and New York Times Real Estate (I go through periods where I like to look at apartment listings)
Amazon (I'm always pricing something -- I just bought a TV Ears speaker system for my mom's birthday so she can hear the TV better at the rehab center and when she goes home; generally I price more than I buy, though)
SugarDVD (you can pay by the minute now; very effecient -- come on, people, where are the porn sites? I KNOW you visit porn sites -- ceiling cat is watching you!)

Lately:

JetBlue and Virgin America (mostly pricing hypothetical Vegas trips)
Macys furniture and Raymour and Flanigan (still thinking about that new living room set and new bed)
Botanical Gardens and Museum of Art (looking for things to do over the summer)

gaspode, you should check out the "Feedly" extension for Firefox and Chrome. I use it and never have to actually visit Google Reader- the Feedly interface is great.

2. CNN (if any of the email headlines look interesting)
3. MetaChat
4. MetaTalk
5. AskMe Anon
6. AskMe Pets

MetaChat and MetaTalk get checked several times a day. The rest of AskMe gets checked a few times a week. Facebook is usually looked at once per day, but not always.

Thanks to desjardins I've added wunderground.com to the list.

I just installed Feedly. That first peek was overwhelming. I will need to do some serious pruning, but overall, the initial work looks well worth the effort.

posted by desjardins 22 July | 13:51
My homepage is a MyYahoo page I set up more than 10 years ago (realizing the ramifications of that, YIPES). In addition, the tabs I always keep open are Gmail, YahooMail, Webmail for my @oneswellfoop.net addresses, the Cpanel for oneswellfoop.net and my other sites under construction (Coming Soon to Beta!), MetaFilter Blue, MetaChat and HELL YEAH Monkeyfilter. Sometimes I keep tabs open for MoFi's ongoing Blogspot and Numbers Game threads because THEY'RE FUN. (And MeCha's Blogspot thread has died off, leaving me as the last player. Come on people, "D-E-C-I-S-I-O-N", it's not that hard!)

The next things I look at are links from my MyYahoo page, news from msnbc, bbc, npr and the local newspaper, blogs from Scalzi, kottke, Mark Evanier, Miss Cellania and her workplace Neatorama, io9, Lifehacker, Consumerist, Smashing Mag, Weblog Tools, and every evening I check woot! for things I shouldn't be buying and my webcomic bookmarks (organized in folders based on what days they update)... you did say the first 100 websites, right?
posted by oneswellfoop 22 July | 13:55
Oh, I almost forgot, Weather Underground (the source for that Full Screen Weather site; thinking I may change to that page), where it's currently 67 degrees with scattered clouds in my town, aren't you jealous?

I wonder if another thread needs to be started on how you save what you want to read later. Sometimes I'll start on something long and since I'm at work I need to pause. During the week I'll have a good 30 things open that I want to read or save. My dad sent me "read it later" but I also have stuff in IE and Opera and Chrome and Iron. I made Thursday braindump day, where I save up all the links and email them from work email to personal email.
