Gahh!! Computer death!!! →[More:]Fuck. All black screen. No response to any attempts to restart including removing battery. I've been better about backing up lately, but the document I spent the last week on is not backed up. Frakk.

This same computer had a logic board meltdown a few months ago and with you guys' encouragement I talked Apple Care into fixing it for free. But I think this is really time for a new one. Too bad I'M POOR! And rely on this computer for my work!

Oh, thank you so much bearwife! I actually can use my roommate's old laptop for a bit till I can get a more permanent one. I do have to re-type my 35 page document though ): Luckily I printed it this morning.

I read your last sentence (Luckily I printed it this morning) and smiled in relief --- it's a horrible pain, but at least you can work from the hard copy.

If you're not absolutely needing an apple you can get a decent PC laptop for under $400.
Not the ideal solution, but a whole lot cheaper if you absolutely have to replace it and can't afford another mac.

Thank the maker!! Panic over.

I took a shower, took a breather, came back, unplugged everything, and tried again and it's working for now. Phew!! Going to back up and start shopping for a new one.

(And you are so right kellydamnit. My stupid Mac loyalty is completely irrational)

Luckily I printed it this morning.

Thank god for paper. Along with microfilm, it is the best preservation medium!

I don't know what's wrong but the logic board has failed three times on this machine - so I've got to assume it's that ):

It could just be heat and dust. My HP laptop was shutting off mysteriously so I took my air compressor, cranked it up to 100 PSI and blew the dust out of the air vents. Hasn't done it since.
