Smart people stay up late. I, however, go to sleep early. I wonder if age was considered in the study because I stayed up late when I was young(er.)
Hey, that's amazing. I am a natural stay-up-later, but the simple pressures of my job mean I have to get up early, so I go to bed more around the time of the "dull" people, about 11:30. Even that does not really get me enough sleep, since I have to be up at 6:30.
The thinking behind this looks super suspect to me, though. We use general intelligence to override the 'natural' sleep instinct? Nah. If you read in history, you find that people stayed up really late even before there was electricity. There were candles and lamps, after all.

I had the same feeling, despite being at near GENIUS levels thanks to my late bedtime (and yes, sleeping in, I love my job). You have to be smarter to override your body's natural instincts? That's really weird.
I must be the stupidest person in the world then, because I'm usually asleep before 10:30.
On the other hand, that's mainly because I have to get up around 6:30 in the morning to have a reasonable commute. When I didn't have to do that, I'd usually stay up until 1:00 or 2:00am and then wake up at 11:00.
Basically my commute has forced me to be a morning person for the last 17 years or so, even though I hate waking up early. So... maybe that proves I am the stupidest person in the world, because of that?
Satoshi Kanazawa is an idiot. He's almost always the one coming up with really ridiculous, attention-grabbing evo-psych explanations for modern behaviors based on evidence that's out of date. He mostly tends to rail against feminism and invent just-so stories about why women should do what he thinks they should do, but I really wouldn't trust him with any other topic, either.
Well, then everybody in the Netherlands is smart in winter. And has been for centuries.
Since at winter solstice there's only daylight for 8 hours here.
Clearly I'm dumb as a bag of lentils, because during the week I'm usually in bed by 10.30 and up by 5.30. Weekends I go to bed later, but am usually up early, 8am is a really late lie-in for me.
I've been a night-owl for the past 10-11 years - since I purchased my first computer. Not working for the past six years has reinforced it. I'd much rather go to bed at 3 or 4 a.m. and sleep 'til noon or later. It's really odd in that I used to be one of those chirpy morning people.
This morning I woke up at 6:15 and couldn't get back to sleep.
The heat has been messing with my sleep. I went to bed at the reasonable time of about 1:30 but then woke up at 5 and couldn't go back to sleep. Which sucks because it's light out so it looks like it's awake time but it's really not. Finally found the right combination of pillows and blankets and cooldown strategies and slept til noon. I often wonder about people who can shift their schedules around. I always tell people that I have a [mostly] online job because I actually CAN'T get up and stay up early on a regular basis. I love the idea. I can't make it happen. I wind up with stress related maladies and various illnesses, but as long as I can more or less sleep on my schedule I'm healthy and mostly happy.
This article makes TimeCube look like the work of a genius.
(I have a really high IQ and I go to bed at 3 AM and wake up at 8 AM so my comment doesn't stem from sour grapes)
Grapes...stem...see what I did there? That kind of sheer cleverness can only be a direct result of sleep deprivation or utter brilliance. You be the judge as to which it is in my case.
That study is an absolute crock of shit any way you care to take it.
I usually go to bed at 11.30 -12.00 and I get up at 5.00. Therefore, dumb as dogshit apparently. I know lots of peoe who are way smarter than me who go to bed long before new and lots of idiots who stay up way later.
I hate to sleep in. Anything after about 7.00 makes me feel like crap all day.
