Your Advice Please: I am caring for an orphaned American Red Squirrel. [More:]

I found the squirrel in the street this evening. She is sluggish and often arches her head back (possible hypoglycemia).

It is possible that she was batted about by the local cats but I'm not sure about that. There are no apparent injuries.

She is very sluggish and VERY docile. Appears to be either an adult or 7-9 weeks old (almost weened.)

I cupped her, initially, in the crook of my arm and she climbed to my head where she stayed a while. I gave her ample opportunity to escape by laying in the road (I live on a dead end) but she stayed, clinging to my shirt. She would spend the next two hours in my shirt pocket.

Currently, she is in a covered box, laying in comfy shredded flannel not quite sleeping, not curled up but stretched out on her side.

I did some research on the web and the arching of the back and head is described as a hypoglycemic seizure so I gave her a drop of very watered down glucose (as per the instructions) but there hasn't been any change. She does not appear to be dehydrated or cold.

Has anyone here been through this - getting a small critter through the night. I have the numbers for rehab people in my town to call in the morning but for now, I feel like I am missing something I should be doing.
Oh, I forgot to mention that she seems to be peeing and pooing normally and without the need to be stimulated.

Never been in that sort of quandary but I do wish you luck. Always cheering for nature.

The only thing I can think of is to keep offering it water and possibly some food (although I have no idea what that would be - pedialite and puppy formula works for sugar gliders). And although it doesn't appear cold, do offer a heat source - like a heating pad under half of an aquarium. It's harder for smaller mammals to regulate their temperature, especially when ill.

Good advice youngergirl. THNX!

Update:
Well, I added two plastic water bottles with hot water with the shredded flannel in between. She burrowed right in and slept a bit.

I cam back to her about 1/2 hour ago and she is now quite spunky and chatty. She's not behaving as if she is week, exhausted, or dehydrated. And, no more seizure-like movements.

I think the glucose helped and especially the heat did the trick.

I'll talk to a rehaber in the morning to get the skinny on letting her go into the wild.

How is she this morning? And any chance of a photo before she moves on? :)

Update:
Well, she's gone. I guess she just needed one night of hospitality. She took off this morning in the warm morning sun leaving $20 on the night-stand. Now I feel cheap.

Sorry I have no pictures. Friends snapped some pics, If they materialize, I'll post them.

Thanks everyone for the support and advice. We did good.
