I'd always heard that if you touched a baby bunny, the mother would kill it because it smelled strange. I couldn't listen to the audio - was there some reason they dug up the nest besides just wanting to see them?
It's an urban myth that human scent on a baby animal will cause the mother to reject it (they'll be okay 99% of the time), but they really shouldn't have disturbed them as the stress of being handled is not good.
