This is a HOLY CRAP HOW DID I GET HERE? thread. I get to buy a car this weekend! As in for real, go to a dealership and buy a car, not get some beater from the want ads for the least amount of money or a hand-me-down from a family member. I am almost 40 years old I have never done this before. [More:]

Sometimes it feels like just yesterday I was a 17 year old unemployed, high school dropout, punk, kid living off beer and bacon in a converted barn with a rock band. Now I'm all married and middle class and buying a Hyundai. WTF? When did that happen?

(And yes, I do actually know how to buy a car. I used to work at a dealership, dated car salesmen, and my dad has worked in the car industry for decades.)
Didja get a new Sonata? Those are pretty sporty.

I have a Hyundai. Part of the reason I bought it was the 5 year, 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. It's at almost 58,000 miles and I took it to the dealer today for an oil change and to have them investigate a clunk that recently started. They are putting new lower control arms on for free. Sweet.

I lurves my Hyundai. And at four and a half years and almost 60,000 miles it still looks pretty good.

Yay Hyundais! I totally rock a 2001 Elantra. Which actually only has 77,000-some miles on it so take that! It's going for an oil change and new brake pads next week.

I completely know what you mean. In my family we have a shorthand for this kind of moment: Make the arm-chopping gesture and say

What is this beautiful house?
Who is this beautiful wife?

Water flows under the bridge with shocking rapidity.

I hate to admit it, but I kind of want a Tiberon :D Hey, chicks can have a mid-life crisis too!

Probably going to go with a used Elantra. One of the reasons we are buying a Hyundai is because everyone I know who has one LOVES it.

That's the damn truth.

Hyundais are grand. My father loves his Elantra, and my mother just bought her second Santa Fe after the first one valiantly gave its life to keep me from getting the back of a semi in the face. They're going to be my favorite car for quite some time (I heart my wee Ford Focus, but it would've been under the semi).
