14 April 2010

I'm in a random negative mood. Can we post one teeny, tiny nice thing about our lives right now?[More:](Feel free to post about a big old nice thing if you are, for example, a certain newlywed couple or the like)

Here's mine: I haven't washed my face with soap in over 2 months, and my skin looks great! I think the hard water here, combined with soap, was causing irritation and breakouts.
Kept on my diet, finished a bunch of work, signed up someone to Metafilter.

I'm going to dinner w/ a friend form grad school who I haven't seen in over a year! Plus we're getting my all-time favorite meal!

Yay!

Here's one for MuddDude - his best friend (and the groom's best man at our wedding) is flying in to town for a few days this weekend! It's a totally last minute thing, but 'dude's super excited about it!

Also, since I mentioned that I was in a "random" mood, I will post this article I just found through some random googling, which takes a common problem that all engineers face on nearly every project (supply chain delays cropping up between the start of a project and the time that the parts are actually ordered), and blows it up into an international thriller. This must be how CIA agents feel when they watch, like, 24.

Got a small stack of new classical CDs today that I'm saving to listen to once I get through this crazy work week.

I'm sitting in a Carnegie library in Oakland right now, enjoying the sunshine streaming in the giant old window, and the beautiful tossed salad of people that make up my beautiful town.

Oh! I fucking. killed. the whitefly. for good and all my seeds have germinated thanks to that lovely early summer.

Yaaay!

Blue columbine are blooming in my garden and I'm obsessed with the pretty watercolor effect of the blooms.

I had a GREAT hour long run/walk today after a great one last night too. Love bike riding season. Peter Reinhart's Artisan Breads Every Day is so so sooo good. Reorganized the kitchen today in a fit of post-run-energy.

I have a blissful hour to myself now the baby is in bed and my husband has to work late. This rarely happens.

It is spring here and the trees are all alight with buds or blooms. When I walk down to the corner of my block, I get lightly dusted with pink-petal confetti.

Saw an amazing concert by Wilco this past Sunday at The Carnegie Music hall in our Oakland (not sure if it's the same Carnegie in Oakland as serazin). They played 34 songs lasting three straight hours, I loved ever minute of it.

Gaspode - isn't that the BEST??? I love my hubby and kid, but those rare times I have the house to myself is just .. heavenly. As long as they don't stay away too long.

I received payment today for an article I wrote (which hadn't happened in over a year) and confirmation that payment is scheduled for two others; it's nice to feel like a Professional Writer from time to time.

I got the best dye and cut I've ever had in my life this afternoon. My hair looks so pretty, it should belong to someone else.

I just finished a Skype meeting with my fellow moderators; it was more joking around than meeting. They are such a fun group of people. Cherry on top: I introduced a few of them to Merkins!

And birdie's picture is so pretty it is now on my desktop.

I just spent the last 1.5, maybe 2 hours talking to my new sweetie BOYFRIEND and trading off reading out loud poetry we wrote when we were younger.

He also thinks I'm a better prose writer than he is. *swoons over my man*

Not news -- it's a few weeks old -- but I got into the grad school program I wanted. I'll see my parents and brother next month, all in the same place at the same time. And I think my garden has reached scallion self-sufficiency.

My paperwhites are getting bigger. My asparagus fern lost most of its leaves during winter but is growing back now. I ate chicken and waffles two Saturdays in a row.

A few days ago, I found out my best childhood friend (since we were 4, I think) was almost 500 lbs about two years ago and is down to less than 200 lbs now. We're both right around 42 now. We'd lost touch and found each other through Facebook. I had to look twice at his pictures to see it was really him. He's also out and proud, which was a huge issue when we were teens. I'm so proud of him and grateful.

Happy belateds to heeeraldo and MCT. If either of y'all are ever in NW Arkansas, please let me know so I can provide happy belated birthday beverages.

Nice thing... I've cooked a couple of good meals this week. Veggy Moroccan root-vegetable stew with couscous, and chile con carne. Nom. Otherwise am feeling chaotic & overburdened so it's extra-nice to be making good food.

serazin, make sure you pronounce Carnegie as car-NEG-ie and not car-na-GEE like New Yorkers do.

'tis the season for young boys to pick the dandelions in our yard and say, "here's a flower for you, Mama. Put it in your hair!"

Tasty tasty noodles for lunch, putting in tomatoes and etc. this weekend, free coffee from Starbucks today if you bring in your own reusable mug, no worries about getting taxes in because I did them in February this year, and life is good.

It was my husband's birthday yesterday and we had a wonderful night together.

My kitties are playing in the box left over from his present.

The dogs have found a place to lay in the sun.

I made chocolate chip cookies.

Thanks, chewie. I'm in a random bad mood too and the gigantor yellow lab reminded me that just barely ten days ago, I had a finished a long very complicated lesson on the intermediate slopes with a very encouraging instructor, who then sent me off on the trail over the mountain all by myself, and when I got to the bottom bit, I skiied through some trees that I'd been wanting to ski through for months, all by myself, and then when I got to the parking lot, there was a chocolate and a yellow lab, hanging out with their guys and their guys let the labs come plowing through a snow bank to roll around with me. And it was *awesome* cause I had a chocolate and a yellow for years and I miss rolling around with them.

Otto is awesome.

I have learned something new about navel oranges. I have eaten many of them in my lifetime, and I always wondered why they had that weird bit of growth. It's also wonderous to think that every navel orange in the world is grown from the same tree, biologically.

Faint of Butt posted an awesome YouTube video of labs in the snow over on MeFi. (Otto must be about two now isn't he? He's looking very handsome.)

I love that video of the labs snow-sliding!

Also, I love this thread. I'm gonna save it for a day when things are less than grand, b/c so many of these comments made me smile IRL.
