29 March 2010

Making lemonade out of lemons It's been an interesting weekend, lemme tell ya. [More:]

On Saturday morning, my aunt died and that finally pushed me into signing up to cut my hair to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. A friend of mine also challenged me to quit smoking for 6 months in exchange for a $250 donation, so I'm doing that, too.

When I told my boss that I was thinking of taking the train up to Canada for the vigil and funeral because I don't have enough money to fly up there and would be away from the office for about four days, she got miffed. She's currently in France, so I think I'm going to take the time between phone calls and tasks to start sending out resumes.

My dad said that he didn't need for me to be there, but since she was his younger sister by two years and she's the first of his brothers/sisters to pass, I really don't know if he'll be okay. I think my cousins are really torn up, too. If I go, I'll be missing TPS's wedding, but I think she'd be okay with that. (Right?)

I'm also going to finish work on a manuscript I started editing for Kelly's widower and then start some really serious work on getting my website and new blog project up to speed.

So... yeah... way to end the month of March, huh?
Wow. She went fast. I am really sorry for your loss, and all of the other shit that's going on. . .

Right :) You do what you need to do, girlfriend. And I'm excited for your short locks!

TrishaLynn, I'm so sorry for your loss, but so glad to see that you've been able to greet it with positive action. Take good care of yourself while you're taking such good care of others.

I'm so sorry to hear this, but good on you for not smoking. And good luck in the job hunt.

I hope you'll be back to catch up with me when I'm back in NY after Ohio.

I'm sorry for your loss, TrishaLynn. Good riddance to March 2010. I hope April brings great things for you.

March treated me very poorly too. Very poorly indeed.

Good luck quitting smoking. If you can survive the first two weeks, you'll be fine and cig-free. However, it is my experience that you will always want a cigarette at all times. It's always in the back of my mind, it's the new normal, but if you can get used to it, you're golden, and your lungs are healthier.

I'm really sorry for your loss, but I agree that you should work in a place where your boss is, like, a person who understands that people need to do these things once in a while. Geez.

Best of luck with all of these things in the next few weeks and months!

Wow, what a crappy time. I hope it all gets better next month.
Don't worry about your boss, maybe she just had an off-day and wasn't ready to hear that you weren't able to hold down the fort while she was away. I hope that is it and that she gets nicer real quick once she realizes how nasty it is to pile more stress on you at a time like this.
Since it's getting to be Spring, now would be a great time to sign up for something new ( and free) like a book club or knitting circle or something that you can look forward to!

On first reading, I completely expected this to end with "and she told me to put the flight on her credit card" or something --- something compassionate, something that considers that this is not a vacation for you and that you need some support right now... or at least not to be buffeted from all sides.

I'm sorry for your loss, and happy that you'll be there for your Dad. Family is more important than work.
