...I don't get it...

lol. I know the feeling. Sometimes even when you get what's going on in these cartoons you don't get why depicting it in comic form is useful. I just found it funny the second I saw it so that influences things.

I read it as, she's tired of 'city' life, cabs, clubs, hipsters, snark, cocktail parties, blah blah blah now she's burning her little black dresses and moving upstate. Burning the dress is like burning her 20s. She won't be standing in line for shiny places or going to dates wearing little black dresses anymore.

I kind of thought that it was poking fun of New Yorkers who think that people outside the city only wear overalls and flannels shirts.

She should be donating that dress instead of contributing to global warming. Planet killer.

Yes, well, we all wear parkas and ski pants upstate, everyone knows this. I'm hoping we'll get electricity by next year, and some of that indoor plumbing too.

As a person who recently moved from the "big city" (though not NYC) to the weird rural land south of it, I laughed. I've felt the same way, and it's nice to see confirmation of the emotion.

Heh. That's a good one. Like the best NYer cartoons it can be read several different ways.
