Cauliflower Swan I can't resist showing off a picture of my little grandniece, Cauliflower Swan, in the dress I knitted her for Christmas. As you can see in the picture, I overestimated how fast she would grow. I made matching slippers too but they were far too large, and probably won't fit until next year.
And yes, I actually do call my grandniece "Cauliflower" — it's a pun on her name.

What a great dress! How did you do the colorwork?

Also super cute grandniece :)

The pattern called for the rose motifs to be knitted into the dress, but I just couldn't be bothered doing it that way. It's so tedious doing work from charts. So I knitted the dress in the plain ivory and Swiss darned the roses on afterwards. Much quicker and looks just about as good.

what a cutie, and I love that dress! Handmade things are tricky for a little one - a friend made us a beautiful sweater, hat, and mittens set, and it only fit my guy for like...one day, in the summer. So, I put it on him with a pair of shorts and took a photo :-)

The dress was actually size six to nine months. Cauliflower was born in early August, which made her almost five months old at Christmas. I figured she'd go right into the dress at that time and be able to wear it all the rest of the winter. But it turned out she's small for her age, so that threw off my calculations. My sister-in-law thinks it might fit her as a sweater next year, which is something to hope for.
