"These fulfill all of my requirements for a perfect chocolate chip cookie" [More:]... they are dense and chewy on the inside, with a crispy and sturdy outer shell; the flavor of the cookie itself is rich and complex and mysterious due to the brown butter; the balance of cookie to chocolate is right on and the sprinkle of salt on top is the perfect finish.
They do look very good.

I am definitely stealing the brown butter and sea salt ideas. Otherwise, my usual recipe is on the Nestles chocolate chip bag.

I really think Nestle already nailed this years ago with the Toll House cookie recipe.

Just maybe add some chopped pecans, and consume with large quantities of cold milk.

I've made the Cook's Illustrated version and they were pretty darn good, though a bit heavy on the chocolate. The brown butter really does add something, and that something is lovely and delicious.

Hmm, I may have to do a taste test at work.

In order to use up the rest of an open bag of chocolate chips, I made the recipe on the back of the bag and everyone who ate them thought they were the best cookies ever and didn't believe me that it was just the recipe on the back of the bag.

I gotta agree with you on this. It's the simple, childhood classic that just has all the tastes right where they belong. While I'm sure these "perfect" cookies are tasty and all, I can't help but just roll my eyes whenever foodies venture into chocolate chip cookie territory.
