Remembering Doug Fieger, a nice retrospective/eulogy for the frontman for The Knack, who were a gateway drug for a lot of folks my age to the addiction that is power pop.
Gateway drug for you, evolution from David Bowie, Marc Bolan, The Sweet, Steve Harley, and BeBop Deluxe for me. Get The Knack pretty much kicked the first Cars album right off my turntable. By 1979, disco had reigned for 3 years; coke and acid had become boring; and John Belushi as Bluto spoke to a new generation, "My advice to you is to start drinking heavily." With its BigDum (TM) guitar riff and silly lyrics, the timing of My Sharona was the perfect fit for the Top 40 vacuum, and the rest of the album was THE soundtrack for the drunken hell-raising mobs that we called parties back then.

I'm with you BoPo - the Knack were the next step from the Beatles to my love of power pop.

That is a wonderfully rick remembrance. Thanks for sharing it here.
