EmCee Update # eleventy-five quatrillion, now with broccoli rabe recipes! →[More:]

Here are the teams as of this moment. BoringPostcards finished his the day I sent it (I'm so in love with him right now....). I haven't heard a thing from either box or chrismear since their acknowledgement emails to me 2 weeks ago. I've been holding onto the slices and sending them in groups of three to the next in each list to save myself extra work and time but that's not working, so I'm just going to go ahead and send mudpuppie hers. All three emcees are looking really good so far!

HURRY HURRY HURRY!
Okay, you don't have to rush but i want to see the finished product before we burn out all our iconomy and never start a new one. Load up on broccoli rabe or whatever to renew the icoresouces.

The coming of secret valentines might be making me excitable.

I just bought some broccoli rabe this morning, eth!! Your memory/brainnzzzz never fail to amaze me, seriously. I love it with scrambled eggs.

Broccoli rabe, that is. Not your brainzzzzz. Although I'm sure they're delicious with eggs too.

You slow steam it for a couple of hours in a pot with a lid, richat...just add a little water, a little olive oil, salt, pepper, chunks of garlic. The best part is drinking the broth when it's done....it's like drinking a secret life force.

Oh - chop it first - use the flowery parts and all the leaves and most of the stems. It really cooks down, too.

Does the slow steaming cut down on the intense bitterness? I've done my best to eat the stuff, but it's one of the few greens I find really unpalatable.

Maybe steaming isn't the right word - just simmer it on low in a covered pot. There's very little water so I think of it as being steamed. Maybe half a cup of water tops.

maudlin, it is a little bitter, ain't gonna lie. I adore the bitterness. Boiling it though? No bitterness at all. Just boiled for a few minutes in salted water.

Ah. Braising or boiling = less bitterness. I love some bitter in my food and drink -- gin and tonic isn't just for summer, you know -- but my usual sauté-and-quickly-steam greens technique was yielded FAIL on rabe.

So I've changed the order once again. I don't understand why I'm not getting any replies from the ones who haven't done theirs, but hell, it's been two weeks. Screw it. Moving on. Now arse_hats' slice will go to shane, and shane's slice will go to misteraitch. I'm really sorry this is taking so long, especially for the people who finished their part in November. You can probably barely remember what you did.

I apologize, ico and others--I hoped to finish my piece in a big rush of activity, but obviously that didn't happen. I didn't think I'd get a chance to finish it, and I should've said that sooner rather than procrastinating. Moving on was the right call.
