Wow, Wow! I love her! I wonder if there's a way to find out who she is. I also wonder if she was a part of the original video, or if it was recorded from TV.
I think she's one of the BBC Sign Zone interpreters. Late at night the BBC has various shows with sign interpreting. The ones I've seen when channel-hopping have been fairly dull current affairs or documentary shows, but clearly the BBC has begun to realise that it's not only young people who can hear who come back from the pub rat-arsed and want to watch something interesting on TV.
This woman was clearly stoked to be given something other than a report on traffic infrastructure during the Crossrail construction to sign about.
She's the best thing! I wouldn't be interested at all in this video, otherwise. I'd really love to see her do more; she needs her own channel/blog/something. I'd watch.
That's totally awesome. I remember picking the brain of an interpreter in some of my classes at Trinity and she said doing musical things was much more difficult that just normal speeches and such.
taz: In the top right-hand corner for the first 25 seconds or so in white text there is a "Signed By [name]" title card. I can't read her name unfortunately but that is an awesome interpretation.
I've done a fair amount of programming for deaf teens and adults, and worked with a lot of different interpreters, and I would say this isn't all that unusual. Those who subscribe to 'total communication' (rather than just translating words to sign) use their faces and bodies to communicate the attitudes and emotional content of speech and music as well as the sense of it. In some of the programs we had performers come to do music or scripted presentations or tell stories, and my staff and I used to sit in the back of the room and watch the interpreters, which was even more fun than watching the performer!
