My favorite cover: Archie Bunker.

When I was in middle school, I used to sell magazines to raise money for orchestra. I guess my mom really wanted to help me out, so there was a brief period during which my lily white Scotch-Irish/German-Swedish Upper Midwestern household received Ebony.

I kinda liked it. At the very least, it introduced me to the fact that most of the cosmetics I was used to seeing in, say, Glamour weren't exactly suitable for darker complexions. That, or that Ebony owned its own line of cosmetics. (Which it does.)

Very keen! I love the public archival work Google is doing.

Note: this is not every issue, but only goes back to Volume 15, in 1959. The first issue was from November 1945, which Ebony founder, John H. Johnson, didn't keep. A copy of the first issue is among the vast collection in the Mayme Clayton Library and Museum.

Now if they would just do this for Tiger Beat -- I had a letter printed in there when I was 8.

What's for dinner? || Doesn't the cat look egregiously photoshopped into this photo?
