New mods in the new year! We have rounded out the moderator team with a couple of new faces...[More:] gaspode and richat! Also, Eidetaker has agreed to help us out with wiki-duties!

gaspode will mainly be focusing on new user registrations, and you may see the occasional post from her welcoming new arrivals (of which we hope to have more in the future). richat will be available to help with everything from "more insides" to putting out fires (of which we hope to have few to none in the future). And Eidetaker has bravely offered to help sort out the Wiki, then help us keep it organized and updated.

Also, I apologize for being so late with this announcement- all three have been ready for duty and even working a little bit behind the scenes since the holidays. This is the last of our staff additions/changes for the foreseeable future. Thanks to all three of these bunnies for hopping on board and helping us keep MeCha running smoothly!
Is there punch and cookies in the break room to celebrate?

*breaks room*

Yes! And the punch in the 2nd punchbowl has a little sumpn-sumpn extra in it for those who aren't driving.

There's also chocolate cake, for those who haven't had breakfast yet.

TheDonF and Specklet's breakfast sounded GOOOOOOD.

Neat! Thanks, mods ... new, old and in-between.

May I suggest updating this page: http://metachat.org/about/?

Hey y'all,

I've been doing new user registrations for a couple of months now, but haven't done a "welcome new users" post yet. One will be coming soon -- we've had a number of new people in the last couple of weeks.

yay!

I'm so happy to see the MeCha renaissance in action.

Good spot, danostuporstar! Will get on that.

Stew, I joined b/c of you! And this is my first post and I am totally nervous about it not having enough bunnies or whatever. (I love bunnies.)

So far, I've fixed one "more inside" that I stumbled upon. I'm around most days, so...yeah, email away!

Leesh!!! Welcome, dear good one!

Renaissance, Stewie? I thought we were recruiting here for the resistance!

And to our new mods, thank you for all of your hard work, helping this stay a welcoming and happy place filled with unicorns and trollslayers and sunshine and pixie dust and la la la la la la la la........

Is it ok if I say Leesh's name with a sort of lisp? It's making me happy to do so.
posted by richat 11 January | 11:07
Thanks, Stew!! richat, you can say my name however you'd like.

Thanks to all mods. I like this place. It feels like it's being cleaned out and straightened up and freshly painted. I think we should add a few Lazyboy recliners and a big screen TV and several conveniently located mini-fridges.

May I suggest updating this page: http://metachat.org/about/

Great suggestion, dano - and in the spirit of updates, the wheels are definitely in motion there too, though I realize it looks like nothing much is happening.

Right now we're working backstage on getting all the MetaChat ducks in a row, and should have something to show you shortly. Basically, there's a project running now which involves culling ALL the comments/ideas/reflections that came from our "Whither Metachat?" threads a couple months ago, and sorting them into a few topic areas, which will become the basis for an updated version of the wiki and will include answers to stuff like "What is Metachat? What's it for? Who runs it? What are the posting/commenting guidelines and what happens if we bump off those rails a little? What is the site's history - who started it and what's happened since?" etc.

The modly group will work on getting these into a succinct enough shape for community feedback, and then that feedback will get incorporated and the 'final' (nothing is ever final, but at least reasonably polished and fairly stable) version can go live on the updated wiki.

This won't be some new edict coming down from Mt. Olympus -- basically, what we're aiming to do is distill the thoughts and ideas of everyone who participated in the "whither MetaChat" discussion into some shared statements that seem to have broad general support and help newcomers understand the site more rapidly, and oldsters have a sense of what main things the userbase has pretty much agreed we want and/or don't want.

Another initiative I'm hoping we can take on, and very soon, is some new user recruitment. Back when MetaChat started there was a little more interplay with MeTa which kept new users popping in, including some open invites like this one from dodgy. Also, MetaChat would pick up new users when MeFi was down and bored MeFites came looking for stuff to do.

MeFi's hardly ever down now, and we haven't posted those kinds of "come on over" threads in a while. So maybe we should make February newbie month, or something, and start getting back in the habit of inviting new kids over to play. It seems to me like we ought to get our revised wiki info up first, though, before inviting a whole bunch of new people without having updated info pages in place to help them get grounded here.

woohoo!

Kangaroo, perhaps it IS time to put that new coat of paint on the ol' mecha mansion. Mind you, this time of year, almost all I can think of is insulation, I'm afraid.

Welcome, leesh!

In the mini fridges, can we have ice-cold Coca-Cola in bottles? That'd be nice.
posted by Miko 11 January | 11:21
Thank you all present and past mods.

And welcome leesh!

(And Miko, stay out of the mini fridge. Those Cokes are $12.50 @.)

Leesh, welcome! I promise you have enough whatever!

Sincerely, thanks to all present mods, and to all past mods, for the work you've put in to make this place run. We know there will always be bumps along the way, and I'm grateful to know we have such capable hands to smooth them out.
