Put on your Google Goggles. [More:] This is pretty cool. Take a photo of a landmark, a business card, an artwork, or a logo, and get Google search results based on the image.

I've been playing with this all morning on my G1 and it works about like they said it does- but I look forward to where they will go with this, when you can photograph the leaf of a plant to identify what kind of plant it is, or take a picture of a car and see what year it is, stuff like that.

There was already an app called SnapTell (which I think is on the iPhone as well) that did this same thing with books, CDs, and DVDs, but they haven't been expanding it the way it looks like Google is going to do with Goggles.
Neat, is this a G1 app?

I just updated Google Maps on my G1 last night so it gives verbal directions and recalculates if you go off course. Very excited about that; no more separate GPS unit in the car.

Okay, so I just downloaded the app to my G1 and took a picture of my firm's logo to see if it could pull up their website. It didn't. But I will experiment further later.

It did that with the CNN logo, amro, but that one's pretty recognizable. (And yeah, the GPS directions update for the Google Maps app is sweeet!)

I suspected that technology was out there, DarkForest. It looks like Goggles is absorbing tech from several different sources. It uses the GPS/maps type tech that already exists in Google Maps, for instance, where you look at a storefront through the camera and see info superimposed on the image.

The plants one is exciting, though, because I'm always wondering about plants and trees I come across and am not sure what they are.

So cool! Can't wait until it's further improved.

Just used it to snap a picture of a highlighter on my desk and it brought up the Sharpie web page in response. Scary.

I just hope that they have a central kill switch for when their grid goes sentient.
