I wish I could find this hilarious image I saw on a dorm wall in the late 80s... It was a very French-looking illustration of a revue, the girls onstage were mid-kick, and there was a dancing shoe sailing out over the audiences' heads. The lettering underneath read, "You Can't Can-Can If Your Shoes Toulouse."
