This ain't no party! This ain't no disco! This is a live rendition of "Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads, recorded in 1980, and daaaamn does it rock. [More:]The lyrics differ from the album version (which came out in '79), and the overall energy of the song is just stronger and more propulsive. This ain't no foolin' around.
This is from the Rhino Records CD of The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads, which was an expanded version of the vinyl live album that came out back in the early 80s, I believe.

I miss 1979/1980 more than anything. I don't miss being 15/16 but there was so much great inventive music coming out every week and I had such great hope for music. </old fogey>

When I was in elementary school I won the Head's More Songs About Buildings and Food from a top 40 AM radio station in Redding, CA. It was a probably right after the album came out and I was listening to the radio and called in to be the Xth caller. They never played any Talking Heads. I didn't know who they were. But my dad drove me out to the studio to pick up the album.

I'd like to say getting the album changed my life and altered the coarse of my musical taste forever. But I hated it. I kept it around in my tiny record colletion of mostly top 40 singles. My musical taste had changed by the time 1985 rolled around and was a senior in high school. My friends and I drove down to Chico to see Stop Making Sense at the little art house theater there (Being a college town Chico was also the closest Tower Records with a decent selection of CDs). That was a fun night that had a lasting impression on my life. It pretty much cemented that I had to get the fuck out of Redding (NOT REDDINGIST) and see the world.

So every time a Talking Heads song comes on my iPhone or I see links like this I it takes me back to that great night. Thanks for the link to a great version of the song and my trip down memory lane.
