Neil Patrick Harris: The Other Sort After our depressing gay-related thread yesterday, this is a much happier read: an essay about the success of NPH and other "out" TV stars, with a little history lesson on actors & actresses from the 1960s who paved the way for them.
Love the bit about Mike Brady getting written out of the final episode. That's hilarious.

NPH would never do that!

According to findadeath.com, Robert Reed hated himself for being gay, was deeply ashamed of who he was. Due to the times he lived in, no doubt. What a tragedy. Great article, thanks!

The Brady Bunch set must have been some seething hotbed of Mike Leigh proportions. Self-hating gays playing dad, mom sleeping with the eldest son, lesbian romances, and all in a house with no bathroom.

They had a bathroom. They complained that they wanted another one in the moving episode, remember? Was the toilet they were missing.

Huh--I had no idea about Raymond Burr.

I didn't know about Sara Gilbert from Roseanne until I read this article.

If you go to Raymond Burr's vinyard in the Dry Creek valley of Sonoma County, you can take a tour of his orchid greenhouse, guided by the knowlegeable Tahitian fellow that Mr. Burr hired to come to the states and help tend his orchids. It is spec-fucking-tacluar. If you ever visit the Sonoma wine country, I highly recommend it!
