Bunny shearing in New Zealand.
That's a pretty large bunny!

I've been there!

The woman looks gentle and the rabbit doesn't seem to be freaking out, but I just can't get behind the idea of a rotisserie rabbit!

It looked a bit kinky to me... I bet there's a human equivalent for those who are into that kind of thing...

Ahhh! That's so weird. And kind of adorable? The bunny looks totally zoned out.

So, I used to raise English Angora rabbits (4-H) and I have never heard of this. Why do people shear them? For industrial angora farms? I couldn't understand what the woman with the microphone was saying, because the noise of the shears drowned her out on my speakers.

In my experience, part of the joy of rabbit husbandry was grooming the rabbits and pulling the fibers. What am I missing here?

They're bred for their wool. Or were you asking why they shear rather than pull the hair? i guess it's expedient?

the rabbits all seemed very chill about the whole process when I was there.

Yes, I was wondering why they would shear instead of pull. I suppose though that if you have a large-scale angora farm it does become a matter of expediency. Clearly they take good care of their animals and the rabbits don't mind the process. I say hooray for all involved.
