When I was 13, my parents took a vacation and my uncle stayed with my brother and I to run the household. On a night my brother had a sleepover, my uncle took me to see Dirty Dancing informing me that "The first thing you are going to say when we walk out is: That was Awesome!" I actually wasn't too psyched about them movie, being 13, I wasn't too psyched about anything at the time. Well, by the end of the movie I was, like everyone else, in love with Patrick and without thinking about it, the first words as we left the theater was "That was awesome!!!"
My stepdaughter turned 13 this past February. The week after her big party, we were hanging out at home and I pulled out my DVD of Dirty Dancing as she had never seen it. She's a lot nicer and happier than I was at 13 so she shrugged when I asked her if she'd seen it, clearly not interested but polite. There's always something blah about parents stuff, isn't there? I just smiled at her and said, "When this movie is done, the first thing out of your mouth is going to be: That was awesome!!!" About a hour and a half later, when the last scene faded and without thinking, my 13 year old stepdaughter squeeled, "THAT WAS AWESOME!!"
I loved both Dirty Dancing and Road House. As far I know I am not a hermaphrodite.
I also enjoyed his last series "The Beast". And to learn that he was putting in 15 hour days while undergoing chemo, refusing painkillers so his character had edge, well, my admiration for the man went up many notches.
