Single-clove garlic. [More:]
I bought some of this in my local Lidl a couple of weeks ago, exactly like the one pictured in a little basket. It's absolutely fabulous. I love garlic, and usually add at least two or three times the recipe amount. One of these single cloves is probably the equivalent of three large cloves, so perfect for me, and so easy to peel.

Today I marinated chicken breasts in lemon juice, olive oil, rosemary & thyme (chopped to dust), salt, pepper, the grated zest of the lemon, and one of these single-clove garlics.

I used my Cuisipro kitchen rasp to zest the lemon and grate the garlic. It has a hard plastic cover to protect the grating surface when it's being stored, but the cover also clips to the back to collect the gratings. It's one of the most useful kitchen tools I own.

So, the chicken breasts and marinade went into a lock-and-lock, got shaken about a bit and then into the fridge for a couple of hours. A hot-ish oven, covered with foil, except for the last five mintues, and they're done and smell fabulous. The chicken/herb/garlic/lemon juice is in a jug, and will be used either in a salad dressing or maybe in a gravy tomorrow when I'll have a good Sunday lunch.

Okay, it's nomtime.
Dang ! That Sounds Tasty !

btw we call that Elephant Garlic Here

This is what we call Elephant Garlic - just like normal garlic but huge.

I have microplane rasps in the kitchen, and they are the best. First used their woodworking tools, and when they came out with kitchen stuff, I bought them. Brilliant.

I know elephant garlic by what Jan's photo illustrates. It's like large garlic, but to me it's milder. Like shallots to onions kind of. I've never seen single clove garlic before.

I tried to make a Garlic Elephant, but I'm all out of garlic, so instead, here's an Eggplant Aardvark attacking a Samurai Robot.

I'd never seen single-clove garlic before, either. I'm not sure I'd have recognized it as garlic if I saw one in real life.

Delicious! I just scrambled to order my garlic for planting this year a couple days ago! All of the sudden it's two weeks into September and everyone's running out. How'd this happen.

birdie, there's a good garlic booth (Allium Acres) at the PSU farmers' market if you get a chance next Saturday. They had at least 15 different types, and I first bought a mixed bag from them to try them. It came with a little brochure talking about each style. It was fun to try different ones with each meal, and I went back and bought a bunch for the winter and for planting.

Sil, awesome, thanks! I did just buy more than I can probably plant but may have to check anyway!

I want to try that! I've never seen it, only the elephant kind with many large mild cloves.
