Calling the naming genii. I'm casting about for a name for a new blog.
→[More:]As I re-coordinate my life plan with my new job, I've decided that I want to get more serious about writing as part of my career and perhaps as the ultimate destination. I've long wanted to write a high-quality blog, and I think that starting one now will be a good way to sustain my interest and give me practice in doing some of the kinds of writing I'd like to keep doing, hopefully for better and better markets.
What I'm planning to do is best described as a regional-interest blog incorporating posts on culture, food, under-the-rader attractions and points of interest, unique aspects of the region, unexpected complexity and cultural diversity. Basically, New England curiosities, things people who like to know things would like to know about a region that has kind of a quaint, staid image. This should give me a place to direct my travel, photography, and folkloric energies.
So I need a title. I have a few unremarkable candidates, and one that I'm iffy on, but keep coming back to: The New England Journal of Awesome. That makes me laugh, and it's memorable, but it's a little flip, too. I picture myself meeting some wonderful artist or Portuguese grandmother and telling her I'm going to write about her in my blog, and I think maybe the "awesome" title is a little arch and hipsterish, not quite centered on where I want it to go. Any thoughts? Inspirations?
