All I can hear is my brain saying "You forgot the mozzarella, you dummy. Now get off the couch and go to the store. I know you don't want to. Oh, drink some cider first? Okay. But don't forget you need to go to the store. For mozzarella."

Leva - Witchcraft - The Alchemist
Red - XTC - Go 2
Jarabew - You Slut! - Critical Meat
Can't Seem To Make You Mine - The Seeds - Pushin' Too Hard
Out of Shape (Part I) - The Mellowmen - Tomorrow's Sound Today
I Picture You - The Robocop Kraus - They Think The Are The Robocop Kraus
Glad to See You've Got Religion - Loudon Wainwright III - The Atlantic Recordings
16 Different Flavours Of Hell (Remix) - Pop Will Eat Itself - This Is The Day...This Is The Hour...This Is This!
The Beginning of the Twist - The Futureheads - This Is Not the World

What to say...

I can highly recommend You Slut! they're like party music for shoegazers

In case you don't know, Pop Will Eat Itself is what Clint Mansell did before he became a soundtrack supremo.

XTC and LWIII are always awesome

I've barely listened to the Witchcraft album but they're very good live if you like stoner rock.

Dishwalla - Surrender the Crown
The Dresden Dolls - Slide
Sufjan Stevens - Joy to the World
Pale Saints - You Tear the World in Two
Ani Difranco - When Doves Cry
Mahogany - Neo-Plastic Boogie-Woogie
Jamiroquai - Canned Heat
Night on Bald Mountain (no tags so no clue about the specific performance)
Kristin Hersh - Me and My Charms
Cocteau Twins - Sugar Hiccup

This would be more interesting if we did it with a larger sample size.

1. JAMES CARR - I'm Going for Myself (You Got My Mind Messed Up 1966) - This man knows knows how to make the grooves ooze woe.

2. MADNESS - Razorblade Alley (One Step Beyond 1979) - Anything off the first five Madness albums gets a thumbs up from me. And the new one is a pleasantly surprising return to the glory of Keep Moving.

3. GREEN DAY - the last of the American Girls (21st Century Breakdown 2009) Maybe I need a break from Greenday. This is a real solid recor, but I never seem to want to play it. A few years ago I would have kept hitting repeat on this song, but now I'm skipping it. Next.

4. GRAHAM NASH - Southbound Train (Reflections box) In the past few years Graham has become one of my favorite rock singers - his voice is so damn comforting.

5. WALL of VOOD - Hands of Love (Call of the West 1982) I get a little miffed when people call WoV a one song band - there's so much to like on their first two records. This is one of the lesser songs on this album, but it still holds up.

6. the JAM - That's Entertainment (Direction Reaction box) A slightly different take on one of the greatest songs ever written.

7. the FLYS - Name Dropping (See For Miles comp 1977-80) Punky new wave pop with a little glam angst thrown in for good messure.

8. SPLIT ENZ - 129 (Beginning of the Enz) They were still working out the balance of arty diversions and pop melodies, but this is still a nice song that hints at the greatness that would come in the next few years.

9. DUKES of STRATOSPHEAR - Pale and Precious (Psonic Psunspot 1987) I'm not as jacked up on this song as many other music nerds seem to be (yes, I know the reference points, but....), but it's a nice little piece for headphones.

10. RHYTHM & SOUND - Mash Down Version (the Versions 2003) Slow goove techno dub - in small doses pretty damn cool - especially at night with the headphones on. But at the moment I'm looking for melody!

I was interested to se the outcome of this because a couple of weeks ago, when I was driving my daughter down to school the ipod karma was strong. I had been fighting off facing some negative shit and then sad song after sad song... it was like therapy via shuffle.

You go, little magic silver rectangle.
